Brandy to star in Documentary detailing Music Comeback

Saturday, July 30, 2011

By TV Insider
JR Staff Writer

In 2008, Brandy attempted to pull of a comeback. Her album, Human, came after the tragic car accident of 2006. On the album, Brandy attempted to put her personal problems in the past. While her goal was moving on, her attitude turned many fans away from her. Human remains her lowest-selling album to date.

Brandy has struggled for quite some time, while Ray J has been one of the more popular R&B singers in years past. In 2009, Ray J soon became one of the more popular television stars. Quickly, he became the biggest face on VH1, when "For The Love of Ray J" premiered. The show received major ratings and left people wanting more of him.

When Ray J decided it was time to end his quest for love, at least for the entire world to see, VH1 wanted to do another show with him. This led to the formation of "A Family Business." Through the show, people were able to see the remorseful side of Brandy. While she was back in the public eye, her show, nor did her appearance on "Dancing with the Stars," do much to boost her music career.

Recently, Brandy confronted this and decided it was time to move on. Brandy announced she will soon be starring in a documentary. The documentary will focus more on Brandy trying to re-gain her spot in music, instead of her other ventures.

DMX's team denies Reality Show rumors

By TV Insider
JR Staff Writer

Years ago, before his various times behind bars, DMX had become the face of BET. At the time, BET was investing more in its original programming. DMX's reality show, "Soul of a Man," was paired with Lil' Kim's "Countdown to Lockdown." Both shows brought record views to BET, at the time.

Following his stint on BET, things went downhill very quickly for the troubled rapper. DMX had plans of putting together his second album with Columbia Records. Originally, he hoped to release the album in 2007. However, label politics eventually led to him leaving the label.

The downtime proved damaging for DMX. While he announced he was going to release two albums on the same day in 2008, no new music came. Instead, DMX was found with drugs on him. The charges quickly landed DMX in prison. After getting out of prison, DMX began serving his longer term in 2009. Immediately following his 2009 release, X was sent back in 2010.

Out of prison, for the last time, he hopes, DMX made several announcements. Repeatedly, DMX said he intended to take the rap game over again. However, there were also reports of DMX starring in a new reality show, called "X-Tended Family." The show was going to revolve around DMX reuniting with his older children and building a relationship with his younger ones. Aside from the children, DMX also was going to work on getting to a good place with his children's mothers. Now, there are reports from DMX's team that say there is no reality show.

More than likely, the "X-Tended Family" reality show is another rumor created by Yadira Borrego, the former fiancee of DMX.

Earlier this week, video footage of Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose leaked to the internet. In the video, Wiz Khalifa "went down" on his popular girlfriend. Before having a relationship with Wiz Khalifa, the ever-popular Amber Rose dated Kanye West. Following a year and a half of ups-and-downs, the two called it quits.

Much like the other celebrities, Kanye West was a heavy poster on the social networking site, Twitter. When Twitter was first becoming popular, a faux Kanye West account was created. Amber Rose has been associated with several leading men in the hip hop game. Among the names are Fabolous and Chris Brown. Rose even reportedly had a short fling with Amare Stoudemire of the New York Knicks.

For the first time in four months, Kanye West posted on his Twitter account. West posted Wiz Khalifa is "tasting the whole of hip hop" when he eats her pussy. The post was removed only seconds after it was posted, but a snapshot was taken and has been shared on the internet.

T-Pain announces "D.O.A." and Introduces the "T-Pain Effect"

By The Music Scoop
JR Staff Writer

By 2008, T-Pain had become one of the top figures in hip hop and R&B. He was featured on songs with all of the top artists in the game. The trademark sound from T-Pain was the auto-tune. Having not been used since the days of Teddy Riley, people credited T-Pain with bringing it back.

However, at the peak of his career, T-Pain decided to take a short break from the game. During this time, Jay-Z decided to return to the game. Only away for two years, Jay-Z watched as the auto-tune had taken over the rap game. This inspired him to record "Death of Auto-tune."

"Death of Auto-tune" stopped T-Pain from recording his album and led to him dissing Jay-Z. The two had a short feud before reconciling. T-Pain decided to take additional time off in order to focus on his comeback. Last summer, he recorded the hook of DJ Khaled's "All I Do Is Win" and he was featured on his recent hit, "Welcome to my Hood."

Now, T-Pain is preparing his fourth album, RevolveR, which will be released later this year. This album will feature the debut of his new movement, "The T-Pain Effect." T-Pain realized he could not rely on one thing over his entire career, so he is expanding his horizions.

"There's so much different stuff on [RevolveR],” said T-Pain. “I almost confused myself on what I wanted to do because I've gotten such a completely different audience from...the Taylor Swift stuff and the Bud Light commercial and Toshiba...I've just gotten so many other people and so many different audiences. I had to make different kinds of music for everybody but still keep it classic T-Pain at the same time. That got kind of confusing and hard, but it all worked out."

Through Kanye West, John Legend is one of the newest artists signed to Def Jam. Over the past few years, Def Jam has been primarily focused on their R&B talent. Adding John Legend to a roster that already included Ne-Yo and Jeremih was a major plus for them.

Being signed to Def Jam is also a major plus for John Legend. With things going so well, the only problem is the lawsuit he is facing. A young man, Anthony Stokes, is accusing John Legend of stealing his song. When Legend visited UNC in 2004, he saw Stokes perform a song he used on his 2006 album.

The song Anthony Stokes is referring to is "Maxine's Interlude," which Stokes claims is his song, "Where Are You Now?" For months, Anthony Stokes has been pushing his lawsuit. He has spoken with several magazines and websites about the situation. As much as Stokes has talked, John Legend has said nothing.

Recently, he decided to break his silence and discuss the issues. John Legend said stealing a track is something he would never do. The G.O.O.D. Music singer said Anthony Stokes is making statements he knows are not true. Until he found himself sued by Stokes, John Legend said he had never even heard of the song Anthony Stokes is referring to. Earlier this year, 50 Cent said he helped to save Jeremih's career. It was two years ago when Jeremih first made it big. Signing with Def Jam, his "Birthday Sex" single became a minor hit during the spring of 2009. But, following the success of the single, Jeremih was forgotten by most people.

However, last December he released "Down on Me" and later 50 Cent was added to the song. After 50 Cent was added to the song, it became Jeremih's biggest hit. Jeremih has replaced Joe as the hook man on most G-Unit songs. Aside from working with 50 Cent, he has also recorded with Lloyd Banks.

Throughout his career, 50 Cent has had issues with Def Jam. When he was outsold by Kanye West, 50 Cent said Def Jam purchased most of the records. 50 Cent said he would release an album every time a major Def Jam artist intended to release an album. Recently, 50 Cent said he would not do business with Def Jam because they are in financial trouble. But, over the years, artists signed to Def Jam have been interested in joining G-Unit. Lloyd speaks on "King of Hearts" and Young Money

Friday, July 15, 2011

By The Music Scoop
JR Staff Writer

By 2007, Lloyd was the only thing keeping Irv Gotti's Murder Inc. Records relevant. At the time, everyone insisted Murder Inc. was still in good standings. They had just signed a multi-year distribution deal with Universal Records and were comeback-minded.

However, the comeback was derailed, as Ashanti's album fell victim to lack of promotion. Ja Rule, the former flagship of the label, found his album shelved, while Lloyd carried the flack. Things were never the same for Murder Inc. and Lloyd expressed his desire to leave the label.

In 2009, Lloyd said he was off the label and Irv Gotti publicly denied this. After sparring in front of the media for a few weeks, Irv Gotti announced Lloyd had been dropped from the label. Only months later, Lloyd performed the hook for Young Money's "Bedrock," leading people to believe he was close to signing with the label. Throughout his career, Lloyd often collaborated with Lil Wayne. At one point, the two had decided to record a full album together. However, none of this happened and Lloyd signed with Zone 4, Inc., the label owned by producer, Polow da Don.

Two years later, Lloyd has released a string of hits and his album was recently released. His first album in three years, Lloyd is trying to rise to the top of the R&B game. On the album, Lloyd featured R. Kelly, whom he admitted growing up idolizing. Lloyd also featured current R&B kings, Chris Brown and Trey Songz, both of which Lloyd measures himself to. Lloyd said he chose to collaborate with these artists to prove he was also one of the more dominant male figures in the R&B game. When they are all on tracks together, Lloyd said people get to see the distinct difference in their respective styles.

Because of his frequent performances and collaborations with Lil Wayne, many assumed Lloyd would eventually sign with Young Money. Lloyd admitted he strongly considered joining the label. While the label is the home of not only Lil Wayne, but also Drake and Nicki Minaj, he ultimately decided to join Polow da Don at Interscope Records. His reason for doing so was because he feels a great singer needs a great producer. Outside of the hit quality, Lloyd also said Interscope Records is always on top of the music scene, regardless of who their biggest artist is, so he needed to be a part of their movement.

Monica talks Lil' Kim's absence on New Single

By The Music Scoop
JR Staff Writer

Attempting to follow in the footsteps of Keyshia Cole, Monica recruited Lil' Kim and Missy Elliott for a new single. Much like the breakout Keyshia Cole hit, "Let it Go," Monica sampled a beat from The Notorious B.I.G. The new Monica single samples the controversial "Who Shot Ya."

Unlike Keyshia Cole, in 2007, Monica has had some issues with her song. The Lil' Kim verse was omitted from the song, because Voletta Wallace, the mother of Biggie, has blocked her. When the song was released, many wondered why Lil' Kim's verse was taken off the song.

Monica confronted all of the questions through her Twitter. She said she was beyond disappointed at what happened. Monica said both she and Missy Elliott are hurt. Due to the fact that Lil' Kim is both their friend, and a legend, they feel as if Lil' Kim should be a part of the single. Unlike them, Lil' Kim had an actual relationship with The Notorious B.I.G.

Monica also revealed she is fighting as hard as she can to get Lil' Kim back on the record. She is doing this for two reasons, the first is because Lil' Kim's verse is the best on the song, and the second is because she has much love for Lil' Kim. However, with Voletta Wallace pulling the strings, they will be sued if they release the Lil' Kim version of the song.

Chris Brown's team denies Homophobic Slur rumors

By The Music Scoop
JR Staff Writer

Recently, there were reports of Chris Brown acting out, once again. Brown is known to be very quick-tempered. Several times, he has acted out in the public eye. Instead of letting his temper hold him back, Chris Brown has used this to his advantage and is currently the bad boy of R&B.

Star magazine reported Chris Brown played a game of pick-up basketball on June 29, 2011. During the game, Brown reportedly began using homophobic slurs. It was said his comments were so harsh, some of the other people playing wanted to take legal action. To many, it came as no surprise.

Only days after the rumors, Chris Brown's team has come out to deny the rumors.

Read the statement below:

A totally fictitious article ran in the current Star Magazine (issue date July 25, 2011) accusing our client Chris Brown of doing something that he did not do.
The article claimed that on June 29, 2011, Chris participated in a pick up basketball game at 24 Hour Fitness Center in LA and said some very inappropriate statements.

The incident described did not occur, nor did the Star ever contact Chris' representatives to request comment or confirmation.
Chris was filming a video with Ace Hood on June 29 and never left the set.
He spent the entire day with dozens of members of the production team filming the video for “Body To Body” at 1870 Sunset Plaza in West Hollywood.
The Star accompanied the fabricated story with a photo of Chris playing basketball in New York that was taken on the day of his F.A.M.E. CD release in March.
Chris Brown's management is considering taking appropriate legal action against the paper.
Unfortunately this bogus account is being picked up by additional media outlets. We stand behind our client and want to set the record straight that this did not happen."

JR Staff Writer

Last year, Uncle Luke made himself relevant when he became the star of his own reality show. He remained in the public eye when he announced he was running for mayor of Miami. For the past few months, Uncle Luke has stayed around by providing commentary on several hip hop events.

Earlier today, Uncle Luke called out Wiz Khalifa, one of the newer artists in the game. Last fall, Wiz burst to fame with his hit single "Black & Yellow." He remained in the spotlight when it was revealed he was dating Natalie Nunn. When he dumped Nunn for Amber Rose, their love triangle stayed in the headlines.

On a daily basis, Wiz Khalifa is in the news for his relationship with the former girlfriend of Kanye West. It seems as if everyone has had an opinion about their relationship. The frequent comments have caused the couple a little hardache, whether the want to admit it or not. Recently, Wiz and Amber took another hit when Uncle Luke called out Wiz Khalifa.

Uncle Luke said Wiz Khalifa has gone soft over Amber Rose. He said the first unwritten rule in the rap game is to never date a woman who has already been with another rapper. Before her relationship with Wiz Khalifa, Amber Rose became famous as Kanye West's girlfriend. Uncle Luke said Wiz Khalifa is not the only rapper to break "the bro code." Among the other offenders Soulja Boy and MempHitz. Uncle Luke said hip hop is not like sports, where athletes all date each other's exes.

Uncle Luke said Wiz Khalifa has no focus, as he fell for a trifling woman, such as Amber Rose, who only loves the spotlight.

Lil' Mo offers support to Missy Elliott

By Mr. Hollywood
JR Staff Writer

Late last month, Missy Elliott came forward to explain her break from the music industry. At one point, Missy Elliott was the biggest female in the game. With the ability to both rap and sing, each of her albums ended up being a major success. But, over time, Missy Elliott faded away with no explanation.

Before the release of her last album, The Cookbook, Missy lost an incredible amount of weight. There was much outrage because of this. Throughout her career, Missy Elliott preached about being proud of the way you look. Now, at the peak of her career, she was losing weight.

However, Missy Elliott revealed her weight loss came with her battle with Graves disease. Lil' Mo, one of the artists Missy helped nearly a decade ago, is offering her support. Knowing what she is going through because of her mother's battles with Graves, Lil' Mo said she would be there for, because she has been instrumental in launching her career.

Nearly a decade ago, it seemed as if Lil' Mo was going to become one of the new key players in the R&B game. Teaming up with Ja Rule, she recorded several hit singles. However, soon Lil' Mo found herself replaced by Ashanti, while Fabolous continued to work with her.

John Legend facing lawsuit over Debut Album

Thursday, July 7, 2011

By The Music Scoop
JR Staff Writer

John Legend rose to fame due to his association with Kanye West, which landed him major collaborations. Before the release of his debut album, The College Dropout, Kanye West created his imprint, G.O.O.D. Music. John Legend was among one of the first artists signed to the label.

G.O.O.D. Music's first year, 2004, was very successful with the release of West's debut and Legend's debut, Get Lifted. Two years later, John Legend released his second album, Once Again, a platinum success. The album featured a track called "Maxine's Interlude."

Five years later, John Legend and the entire G.O.O.D. Music label, are facing a lawsuit over the song. Written by Anthony Stokes, a student at UNC Chapel Hill, Stokes never received proper credit for the song. Stokes claimed he had the lyrics to the song copywritten in 2004. Before he registered the song, Stokes said he attended a John Legend concert.

Upon meeting John Legend backstage, Anthony Stokes presented the singer with his demo and his contact information. With no copyright on the song, apparently John Legend used the song and featured it on his second album. Anthony Stokes is suing G.O.O.D. Music and former distributor, Sony Records, for copyright infringement and unjust enrichment.
