When Destiny's Child went on hiatus, following their success during the summer of 2001, Kelly Rowland made a bold decision. Rowland decided to branch out and record a solo album. During the summer of 2002, her debut single, a duet with Nelly, "Dilemma," rose to the top of the charts.

In the fall of 2002, Kelly Rowland released her debut album, Simply Deep, which was a platinum success. Suddenly, all of the attention was on Kelly Rowland. For years, Beyonce had been the face of Destiny's Child. But, Kelly's success led Beyonce to venture into her own solo career.

Beyonce released her debut album in 2003 and went on to become the top female in pop and R&B. Meanwhile, Kelly has struggled to reach the peak of her debut. After a five year hiatus, Kelly Rowland released Ms. Kelly in 2007. The album did not accomplish half the success of her debut.

Last year, Kelly Rowland wanted to release Here I Am, her comeback album. In order to make a fresh start for herself, Rowland fired Matthew Knowles, her first manager. Under new management, she quickly secured a release date for her album. Before the spring of 2011, Rowland released "Motivation," which features Lil Wayne. The song has since become a hit in the late spring. Not only does she have a new manager, but she is also with a new label, Universal Motown, since leaving Columbia Records.

Earlier today, a new song from her Here I Am album leaked. Featuring upcoming rapper, Big Sean," her new song, "Lay It On Me."
