Memphis Bleek looks to Expand his Company
Tuesday, April 6, 2010
Memphis Bleek has been the CEO of his own record label, Get Low Records, ever since 1997. The previous year, his mentor, Jay-Z had created his own label. He agreed to sign Bleek to the label, but he advised him to create his own company. Jay-Z knew that one day things would change.
Every album released by Memphis Bleek has come as a release through Get Low/Roc-A-Fella. There was almost the question of why Bleek had his own label. He had no artists signed to the label and he represented Roc-A-Fella more than his own imprint. In 2008, when Jay-Z created a new label, Bleek decided to move his own.
In 2009, Memphis Bleek signed artists to his label and he landed a distribution deal with Mass Appeal. Now that he is own his own, Memphis Bleek wants to expand his horizions, business wise. Throughout his career, people have always credited the success of Memphis Bleek to Jay-Z. In an effort to separate himself from Jay-Z, Memphis Bleek landed his own deal, without the help of his mentor and he plans on creating his own business ventures without the help of Jay-Z. Each album released by Bleek has featured Jay, but not this one.
This year will be the first year that Memphis Bleek is own his own. He plans on putting his next album out before the end of the year. Following the release of his album, Bleek also wants to release albums from the other artists signed to his label. Not only does Memphis Bleek see himself becoming one of the top rappers in the game, but he also sees himself becoming a hip hop mogul. Along the lines of 50 Cent, Sean "Diddy" Combs and his old partner, Jay-Z, Bleek is confident in his business skills. Outside of the music, Bleek has plans of reviving his clothing line and creating a film production company. Memphis Bleek plans to follow the same path as Jay-Z to become one of the top performers and businessmen in this game of hip hop.
