Meagan Good pictured in "Men's Health" magazine

Saturday, April 2, 2011

It came as a surprise to many to see Meagan Good in the first few minutes of "The Game," when it returned in January. From the gate, it seemed as if 2011 would be a good year for Meagan Good. She played opposite Hosea Chanchez during the fourth season, on a recurring status.

But, with the fourth season of "The Game" over, Meagan Good has had no trouble finding other work. This week, an announcement was made that Good would be starring in the "Video Girl" film. In the film, she would be starring alongside LisaRaye, Melyssa Ford, and rap star, Juelz Santana.

Meagan Good can next be seen in the April 2011 issue of Men's Health magazine, however. Good took several pictures for her interview with the publication. She will be the focal point of the topic called, "What Women Want." Her Video Girl film will hit theaters on April 29 of this year.

"The Game" doing well on BET

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

By TV Insider
JR Staff Writer

When BET began airing new episodes of cancelled sitcom, "The Game," the episodes were met with negative reviews. Many publications slammed BET for turning "The Game" into a ghetto series. For decades, BET has been getting slammed.

Following thirty years of failures, BET has finally started to get it right. Right when the network begins to do right by the target audience, the mainstream begins to complain. The first thing BET did was turn the former low-rated sitcom into cable's highest rated sitcom.

One reason why "The Game" was met with negative reviews was because the characters were trashed. Malik was always cocky, but on the fourth season, he was downright ignorant. Derwin had always been gullable, but he ended up turning his back on his own son with little proof. Melanie always had insecurities, but she would have never swabbed a baby. Tasha was always a little rough around the edges, but she was never this materialistic.

But, critics fail to realize the show has moved ahead two years, just like the rest of the world. Derwin went from being a benchwarmer to the biggest football star in the world. Because of his superstar status, he can only trust a few people, the one person he trusts is Melanie, his wife. Malik is not only cocky, but insecure as everyone else is moving on with their life and he has already seemingly reached his peak. His actions are not because he is cocky, but because he is scared.

The reason Tasha is acting out of character is because she has more money. As the season has gone on, all of the characters have been checked because of their faults. Malik went into rehab and he has come out a better man, with a supermodel girlfriend. Melanie is still going through issues, but what woman wouldn't if they had a husband with a profile as big as Derwin's. Tasha has been checked by Terrence J's Dante character several times because of her materialism.

BET took "The Game" to new lows in order to elevate the series to new heights. Never before has a network been so involved with one series on the lineup. If anything, BET should be praised for their efforts with "The Game," especially with their own season four.

Tracee Ellis Ross prepares Return to Television

Sunday, February 20, 2011

By TV Insider
JR Staff Writer

In the early 2000s, Tracee Ellis Ross moved out of her mother's enormous shadow and became a star in her own right. She starred for eight years on the hit UPN/CW series, "Girlfriends." The show was the most popular on UPN, a network geared towards the black audience.

In 2006, UPN merged with The WB to form The CW and many black sitcoms were lost in the process. "Girlfriends" survived for two years before being cancelled. Following the cancellation, there was public outrage. People called upon BET to save the day, but they did nothing besides show reruns.

The black community rallied behind "The Game," the popular spin-off of "Girlfriends," in the wake of the cancellation. But, one year later, it, too, was cancelled. But, BET played hero with the second series and brought it back to life. Upon bringing "The Game" back, there was a small glimmer of hope of "Girlfriends" being brought back, but it did not happen.

However, Tracee Ellis Ross will soon be returning to television because of BET. "The Game" has revitalized the network. Because of the success of the series, BET is producing more original sitcoms and adding them to the lineup. Outside of "The Game," BET is also showing a new series called "Let's Stay Together," which has been moderately successful. Tracee Ellis Ross has been cast for a new BET sitcom, called "Reed Between the Lines."

"The Game" is back as if it Never Left

Saturday, February 5, 2011

By TV Insider
JR Staff Writer

When BET picked up the rights to broadcast the first two seasons of "The Game," black America found the new television series. The reruns on BET had higher ratings than the original airings. Despite the rise in popularity, "The Game's" days were numbered.

The CW Television Network had inherited most of their black sitcoms from UPN. Ever since the network's inception, they had been killing black sitcoms left and right. Over the past three years, "The Game" had built a large following. The CW did all they could to ruin the show and cancelled it.

The pressure mounted on BET to somehow save the show. Following months of debating, BET landed the rights to broadcast a fourth season of "The Game." While the battle was over, the war had just started when each actor for the show had to be re-signed. Pooch Hall (Derwin) had landed a guest-starring role on the new CBS sitcom, "Accidentially on Purpose," and Coby Bell (Jason) had landed a role on the USA hit series, "Burn Notice." During the spring of 2010, BET made an announcement that shocked everyone when they revealed "The Game" would be coming back.

Last month, "The Game" returned and is all of the talk in most black households as if the year is still 2009 and the actors are glad. After only four episodes, Malik's selfishness has been the topic of discussion, along with the marriage of Derwin and Melanie. Meanwhile, the now-retired Jason, has created an online dancing craze with the "Dip N Pitts." More than ever, "The Game" is truly connecting with the viewers, as they have loosened up now that they are with BET. They have the freedom on cable that they never had with The CW and it is evidenced with the way the characters are being portrayed.

"The Game" starts a new Dance Craze

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

By TV Insider
JR Staff Writer

Last night, BET scored more high ratings behind the efforts of "The Game." After being away for nearly two years, fans are eager for new episodes. The episode picked up from Tia Mowry's Melanie telling Pooch Hall's 'Derwin' about his son.

In the second episode, fans saw Brittany Daniel's character 'Kelly' make up with Wendy Rachel Robinson's character 'Tasha.' The high point of the show was supposed to be 'Melanie's' confession to 'Derwin,' but Coby Bell stole the show.

Last summer, Bell was likely not to be on "The Game" when it returned because of a role he had taken with "Burn Notice." But, when the filming began, his schedule was actually clear, so he returned to play 'Jason Pitts' again. Already playing an aging superstar, when the show picked up two years later, Bell's Jason was basically retired and hosting a TV show. On the last episode, viewers saw 'Jason' not be signed to a new contract and him officially retire. Things only became worse for 'Jason' when he introduced "The Pittsy Shuffle" to his fans during his party.

While the "Dip n Pitts," as it is being fondly called by fans, was a miss on the actual show, it has become a hit with viewers across the world.

"The Game" to overtake Tyler Perry's Sitcom Empire

Friday, January 14, 2011

By TV Maverick
JR Staff Writer

After building a successful film franchise, Tyler Perry branched out into sitcoms in 2006. He financed the first series, "House of Payne," himself and some local television stations picked up the show. The series was popular and TBS decided to work long-term with Tyler Perry.

In 2007, Tyler Perry premiered "House of Payne" on TBS and it became cable's highest-rated original sitcom. Two years later, he premiered another hit with "Meet the Browns." Currently, those shows are the most popular on cable television.

But, now that "The Game" is with BET, the series has surpassed the numbers it made on The CW, a channel with only a small reach. When "The Game" ran syndicated episodes on BET, it was many viewers' first time ever watching the show. Many people had planned to watch the fourth season when it returned on The CW, but that never happened. When it became clear that "The Game" was not coming back, fans pleaded with BET to save the series.

When "The Game" premiered on Tuesday, the viewing audience at 7.7 million set a cable record. With a good plot behind the series and a cliffhanger, ratings are only going to get higher for the show. Tyler Perry has built a cable empire with his TBS sitcoms, but it is only a matter of time before BET and "The Game" begin to bring in regular ratings much higher than that of Tyler Perry and his sitcoms.

By Mr. Hollywood
JR Staff Writer

The incredible ride for Terrence J continues as he is making moves all over the place. In 2006, Terrence J was selected in a fan voting to become the new host of "106 & Park." The show is the hottest hip hop program on television. Terrence J quickly won fans over on the show.

Now, he is more than a television and radio host, Terrence J is a star on one of cable's highest-rated programs. Quickly, he is becoming a rising star in black entertainment. Despite his appearance on "The Game" being his first role in a television series, his performance was well-received. It appears as if he will be one of the core characters in the new season of the show.

Hosea Chanchez dating Tamera Mowry

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

By Mr. Hollywood
JR Staff Writer

For nearly two years, there have been rumors of "The Game" star, Hosea Chanchez being involved with Tamera Mowry. Her twin sister, and "Game" star, Tia Mowry, introduced the two. On the show, the characters 'Malik' and 'Melanie' pretended to date. Some fans saw a little bit of chemistry.

But, their ploy was only to make Pooch Hall's 'Derwin' jealous, nothing more. While Chanchez did not get Mowry on-screen, he was able to get to know her sister, off-screen. Tia Mowry married Justin Hardict in 2008. Last night, before the premiere of "The Game," she announced she was pregnant.

News like that is hard to compete with. Tamera Mowry is excited to become an aunt, but she has a little news of her own. She has been flirting with Hosea Chanchez for a little while. The two have been spotted together and have had casual dates. But, when the question was actually asked, both of them denied anything more than a friendship.

However, the two announced that they are a couple and that they are exclusive.

By Mr. Hollywood
JR Staff Writer

Over the past five years, Terrence J has been living the life of a miniature celebrity. As the host of "106 & Park," he has had the chance to meet several stars. Terrence J is one of the more popular faces at BET. Realizing this, he earned another job with the network.

For ten years, "106 & Park" has been BET's most-popular show, but that will soon change. After two years of speculation, "The Game" will return on BET. In May 2009, it was revealed that The CW would not renew the show. Fans were outraged after all they did to keep the show on.

Now that the show is back and with BET, the network has had ideas to keep the show fresh. The new season will feature Terrence J as Wendy Raquel Robinson's character of Tasha's boyfriend. With that revealation, Terrence J goes from being a simple video jockey to being one of the biggest faces in black entertainment.

While he has yet to be seen with "The Game," Terrence J is already being treated like one of the major players in black entertainment. Meagan Good joins BET's "The Game"

Friday, January 7, 2011

By TV Maverick
JR Staff Writer

Nearly two years have passed since "The Game" last aired a new episode. Despite the lapse in time, the series is back and headlining the new BET schedule. For the first time in the network's history, BET will be broadcasting original sitcoms.

"The Game" will be the lead-in to a one hour block which also includes a new sitcom, "Let's Stay Together." After being away for two years, "The Game" has lost a few cast members. The former Los Angles Laker, Rick Fox, will not be on the show.

Earlier, it was said that both Rick Fox and Stacey Dash would be returning to the show. However, after filming the new season, which is only eleven episodes, they were not even mentioned. Fox played himself while Stacey Dash played Coby Bell's love interest.

With two cast members gone, "The Game" has brought in some new characters. Earlier this week, it was announced that Terrence J of BET's "106 & Park" would be on the show. Now, it has been revealed that the new season of "The Game" will also include Meagan Good. Good is best-known for her role in movies, such as Waist Deep, her role in "My Wife and Kids," and also her role opposite 50 Cent in his music video for his hit, "21 Questions."

Meagan Good will play Hosea Chanchez' 'Malik' character's love interest in the 2011 season.

Terrence J of "106 & Park" joins "The Game"

Tuesday, January 4, 2011

By TV Maverick
JR Staff Writer

In 2006, Terrence J received a major boost when he was selected in a search to host BET's "106 & Park." The music video show has been the top show on BET since its inception. However, the show was struggling to maintain hosts after the departure of A.J. and Free. Terrence and his co-host, Rocsi, helped fix this.

Over the past four years, the new duo have built a major following of their own. The two held their own in a reunion show in which A.J. and Free returned for an episode. Not only has "106 & Park" gained credit as a music show, but an overall pop culture show. After The CW's cancellation of "The Game," many of the shows actors went on "106."

During one of the interviews on "106 & Park" with one of the actors of the hit series, Terrence J revealed he was a major fan of the show. While he is not an actor by nature, Terrence said he could adapt. "The Game" has found a second home on BET and the network is doing all it can for the show. Since Terrence J is one of the network's biggest personalities, he has been added to the cast of "The Game."

Terrence J confirmed these rumors and he told fans to watch out for his character. It is not clear if he will be a new player or playing a role similar to that of Barry Floyd. With "The Game" coming to BET as an original program, it will surpass "106 & Park" as BET's biggest show. It is unclear if Terrence J will continue his role with "106 & Park," or how major his role with "The Game" will be. Everything is very uncertain, but this is definitely a good look for Terrence J and BET.

BET finally gets into "The Game" of Original Sitcoms

Friday, December 31, 2010

By TV Maverick
JR Staff Writer

The black community has been outraged with BET since its inception. When the idea of a television network owned and operated by black people was presented, it was presented in a professional manner. Bob Johnson promised he would fill the network with original sitcoms and dramas.

But, Johnson realized BET was a business, so he aired free music videos throughout the day. Some other black businessmen tried to create other networks, but they did not last. Johnson had the right formula and Viacom bought into it. They would take over BET for $3 billion.

Still, the network continued to broadcast cheap reality shows and music videos. Meanwhile, other networks, such as FOX, The WB, and UPN aired original black sitcoms. Each network eventually dumped these programs when their audience was built. Often times, the black community looked towards BET to save these cancelled shows. BET would pick the cancelled shows up, but only to broadcast the reruns of them to the large audience. In 2009, BET began rebroadcasting episodes of "The Game," which became the highest-rated show in network history.

Following the third season, The CW cancelled "The Game" and the pressure was on BET to deliver new episodes of the series in the future. Surprisingly, BET came through and landed "The Game." But, in an effort to cut costs, production of the show was moved to Atlanta. Along with "The Game," BET also decided to add another original sitcom to their lineup. "Let's Stay Together" stars the former "Soulfood: The Series" star, Malinda Williams as she plays the role of Stacy Lawrence.

Now, all of a sudden, the black pack is back and it is finally on BET, where most people feel it shoul have been the entire time. TBS also has a lineup of black sitcoms on its schedule, powered by the Tyler Perry sitcoms. With BET in the mix, there is a chance of the new lineup of black sitcoms staying on television for longer than five years. Even with the new, heavily promoted, lineup of new original sitcoms for BET, this is not their first time broadcasting original scripted programs. During the fall of 2008, BET aired "Somebodies," starring Hadjii Hand.

Tia Mowry is glad "The Game" is Back

Tuesday, October 5, 2010

By Mr. Hollywood
JR Staff Writer

"The Game" helped introduce Tia Mowry to an audience who had forgotten her. Mowry, along with her twin sister, Tamera, rose to fame in the 1990s on the sitcom, "Sister, Sister." The show was a hit, but after it was cancelled, Tia and Tamera fell off.

But, in 2006, when Tia Mowry guess starred on an episode of the hit sitcom, "Girlfriends," it was clear she was back. The pilot received high ratings and "The Game" came later in the year. For the next three years, Tia Mowry rose to fame again as the scorned woman, Melanie Barnett.

Despite "The Game" bringing in high ratings for The CW Television Network, the network was looking to take it off of their schedule. "Girlfriends," the parent show of "The Game," was cancelled in 2008. Before the 2008-2009 season, The CW placed "The Game" on their Friday night schedule and the ratings plummeted.

Following the 2009 season, The CW decided not to renew "The Game." Beginning during the summer of 2009, BET showed interest in picking up "The Game." From that point until earlier this year, BET held the loved series in a limbo. With the back-and-forth over, "The Game" will return in 2011. The protagonist, Tia Mowry, could not be happier that her show is returning. She had gained fame in two decades and was upset because she felt her run was cut short.

But, in a rare case, her cancelled series was picked up by a cable network that has decided to make her the face of their original programming. New episodes of "The Game" begin on January 11, 2011.

"The Game" returns on January 11, 2010 on BET

Monday, October 4, 2010

By Mr. Hollywood
JR Staff Writer

Two years ago, The CW Television Network cancelled the long-running series, "Girlfriends," and moved "Everybody Hates Chris" and "The Game" to Friday nights. After the season, both shows were removed from the schedule.

While Chris Rock gracefully bowed out and ended his series, Black America stepped up for "The Game." Nearly every black celebrity wore t-shirts that read "Save The Game." BET had began aring reruns of the show that were well-received.

Throughout the summer of 2009, there were multiple reports of BET picking up "The Game." Each time the rumors were confirmed, someone came back and denied the rumors. With all of the back-and-forth, interest in another season of "The Game" soon waned and the people moved on. However, back in April of this year, BET broke the news, themselves, about bringing the show back for another season.

Opting to wait until after the fall television season, BET announced "The Game" would not return until sometime in 2011. Recently, news broke about the series returning for a fourth season on January 11, 2010.

"The Game" starts filming This Summer

Friday, June 4, 2010

Entering its third season, two years ago, the black audience had finally gotten hip to "The Game." The show featured the behind-the-scenes life of professional football players. Before the start of the third season, the show's syndication rights were sold to BET.

The CW Television Network, the channel which aired "The Game," was transitioning away from black sitcoms, which meant they were trying to get rid of them. In an effort to drive viewers away, the network moved the show to Friday nights.

On a new night and a new time, the audience dwindled and "The Game" was placed on the chopping block as the network wanted space for more soap operas. Mara Brock Akil, the creator of the program, tried to pitch the season finale as a soap opera. The format was panned universally and The CW still canceled "The Game" along with "Everybody Hates Chris." Sensing the end, Chris Rock wrapped his show up while Akil hoped hers would continue. Following the cancellation of "The Game," BET vowed to bring the show back.

Throughout the summer of 2009, there were multiple rumors concerning the show with Tia Mowry caught up in the middle of all of them. Mowry said, each time, she had not heard anything from the producers, but she was confident a deal would be reached. BET was said to have acquired the rights, but Tia Mowry said the actors were unwilling to take a pay cut. Right then, it became clear "The Game" was not going to return to television. But, Mo'Nique hinted to a return of "The Game."

Recently, BET held their upfront presentation and they revealed "The Game" to be on their schedule, returning this fall to television screens. The production of the show has moved from Los Angeles to Atlanta, to cut back on costs, but retain all quality. Also, all of the actors will be returning to the series, as well. While the show has been greenlit for a fourth season, there was no word on when production will start. Earlier this week, the producers revealed the show would resume filming later this month for a December return.

Rick Fox will return to “The Game”

Thursday, May 13, 2010

When “The Game” first began airing, it was popular because of its soap opera-like storyline in a sitcom format. One of the other reasons that the show was so popular was because of the high-profile guest appearances. Rick Fox first appeared on “The Game” in 2007, but his popularity led to a pairing opposite Wendy Raquel Robinson’s Tasha Mack. Playing as himself, Fox became a key character on the show.

However, last season, Fox left the show midseason due to storyline issues. At the time, Tasha was upset with both Rick Fox and Brittany Daniels’ Kelly Pitts because she had been fired from her job. Because she was upset, she called things off with Rick Fox. Heartbroken, he accepted a job in Miami, leaving Tasha alone. Even as he was leaving, he and Tasha reconciled, but it was too late for him to undo what he had done.

After “The Game” was cancelled by The CW and it was taking ages for BET to come through with another season, it appeared as if Rick Fox was done for good. But, last month, BET revealed that they had worked out a deal to bring “The Game” back. The only problem was trying to retain the cast. Coby Bell had already accepted a starring role on another show, but he agreed to become a recurring character.

But, no one expected Rick Fox to agree to rejoin the cast. With Coby Bell being pretty much left out of the major plot for season four, “The Game” needed for someone else to step in. Rick Fox will be given a major role for the upcoming fourth season. During his first run on “The Game,” Fox only played a minor role in the plot. Now, he will have a major role in the storyline that will continue with the broken relationship of Tia Mowry and Pooch Hall.

"The Game" to return This Month

Tuesday, April 27, 2010

There has never been a black sitcom in history as fought for as "The Game." For years, networks have used the black community to build their viewer base. As soon as they land a hit series, they dump the black viewers for a "mainstream" audience.

Most recently, The CW was the network capitalizing off of black people. However, after they eliminated all of their black sitcoms in a matter of two years, the black community struck back. It was said that the network intentionally railroaded "The Game" in order to cancel it.

During its first two seasons on the air, "The Game" was a Monday night standout that brought in solid ratings for the network. Its third season, and final with The CW, saw the series pushed to Friday nights and the ratings dropped by 60%. BET came through and landed the syndication rights to the show before the end of the television season and introduced it to an entirely different audience. Together with the stars of the show and other fans, this new audience came together to create the "Save The Game" campaign. The goal was to get 1 million signatures signed to keep the show on the air. Eventually, the goal of 1 million would be exceeded, but The CW did not care.

Debra Lee, the CEO of BET, made it her personal mission to land "The Game" as an original series for her long-hated network. After months of deliberation, early last month, it was revealed that BET had secured the first-run rights to "The Game." The next move was to re-sign the cast and the crew. It was said that all of the cast agreed to return, but Coby Bell (Jason Pitts) would be reduced to a recurring role. Because he was informed that "The Game" was not returning, Bell signed on to star in "Burn Notice." Still, he agreed to stay with "The Game." Now, after that confirmation, it is being said that "The Game" will return to BET before the end of April 2010.

With only a few days left in the month, that is going to be a stretch, but there is time.
