By Mr. Hollywood
JR Staff Writer

Long before her days with Nick Cannon, Mariah Carey was involved with Eminem. The two broke up and seemingly moved on with their lives. But, when Mariah Carey began dating Nick Cannon, Eminem mentioned he used to have a relationship with her.

Mariah Carey publicly denied having anything more than a friendship with Eminem. Following her denial, Eminem made a few public statements. In 2009, Carey released a single taunting Eminem, "Obsessed." Eminem responded with the scathing diss, "The Warning."

Ever since the release of "The Warning," Nick Cannon has had issues with Eminem. Often, Cannon goes out of his way to insult Em. Each time he is dissed by Nick Cannon, Eminem goes right back at him. But, last year, Eminem turned over a new leaf and he promised his family and his friends he would leave all beef alone.

Recently, Nick Cannon took a couple of cheap shots at Eminem at a comedy performance. Cannon said he was only joking around and agreed to put the beef to rest. At this point, Nick Cannon is in the middle of a great stretch. He has two beautiful children, a loving life, and his career is going well. Cannon manages rising rapper, Cory Gunz, and even produces his MTV reality show, "Son of a Gun." Aside from producing television shows, Nick Cannon is still running the TEENick television network.

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have been in the headlines ever since they confirmed their relationship. Once they convinced news outlets they were in love, they had to fight plenty of challengers.

In 2009, Mariah Carey re-ignited her feud with Eminem, one of her ex-boyfriends. Carey insisted Eminem had a weird infatuation with her. The song was titled "Obsessed" and Em was parodied in the official video.

Eminem quickly launched a response. His song, "The Warning," exposed the truth behind his relationship with the singer. The song revealed Mariah Carey was more into him than he was with her.

For the most part, the war of words between Eminem and Mariah Carey is over. Nick Cannon, however, is still carrying a grudge against Eminem. While he is still upset, Cannon is celebrating the birth of his two children one week later. The media has been all over the pregnancy and the couple recently revealed the names of their babies.

The son has been named Moroccan Scott Cannon and the daughter is named Monroe Cannon. Nick's middle name is Scott, along with his grandmother's maiden name. Plus, Mariah Carey's penthouse is named the Moroccan. Their daughter, Monroe, does not have a middle name because Mariah does not have a middle name.

Once the media accepted Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon as a serious couple, the rumors began. Due to the difference in age, many refused to believe Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon were in a serious relationship. The couple proved they were when they wed in 2008.

Following their marriage, the media continued to push the rumors about the two having a baby. The couple denied this for the longest time. It turned out the two were expecting right after their marriage. But, when they miscarried, they decided to keep the media out of their business.

During the pregnancy, Mariah Carey has taken a back seat and avoided the media. Nick Cannon, however, has been in front of the cameras. He has discussed some of everything, including his artist Cory Gunz and his feud with Eminem. Nick Cannon says he is the happiest he has ever been, but he is ready to take on Eminem for his disrespectful comments.

All of this will come a distant second to Nick Cannon, as he and Mariah Carey welcomed their baby boy and girl into the world earlier today.

Rick Ross and Chrisette Michele end feud?

Thursday, April 14, 2011

By The Music Scoop
JR Staff Writer

Rick Ross had a hit on his hands when he released the summer single, "Aston Martin Music." The song blended Ross' smooth flow with Chrisette Michele's nice voice. Quickly, the song became a hit on urban radio.

Overall, 2010 was a great year for Rick Ross, but it was not great enough. Despite his best efforts, Ross could not reach Eminem's level of popularity. The year before, Ross engaged in a feud with 50 Cent and called out Eminem.

Due to Rosss' own success during 2009 and 2010, he decided to move past the beef. But, everything came to a head at the 2010 Soul Train Awards. For the song of the year, Eminem's "Not Afraid" was going up against Rick Ross' "B.M.F." and Eminem won. In the show, Ross was also supposed to perform "Aston Martin Music."

But, when it was time for the performance, Rick Ross was nowhere to be found. Many, including his own label-mate and featured guest, Chrisette Michele, felt Ross was upset because he lost. She said he needed to get over himself and perform the song. The following day, Rick Ross said he did not perform the song because he had no creative control on how the performance would take place. Ross also responded to what his collaborator had to say.

For months, Rick Ross and Chrisette Michele have had nothing to say to each other. However, rumors suggest the two have put their past differences aside to reunite and possibly collaborate again.

50 Cent making moves Outside of Rap

Saturday, March 12, 2011

By Mr. Hollywood
JR Staff Writer

Eight years ago, the world was introduced to 50 Cent, the toughest guy in the rap world. Years before the world discovered who he was, 50 was actually one of the meanest thugs on the streets of New York. He had a gift for rapping and decided to pursue it when his son was born and teamed up with Jam Master Jay.

Jam Master Jay taught 50 Cent a lot of what he knows, but did not show a sense of urgency when releasing his music. Because of this, 50 decided to take matters into his own hands. Soon, 50 Cent began releasing his own music. 50 Cent pitched himself to Columbia Records and was signed.

Things had finally turned around for 50 Cent when he was shot and dropped from Columbia Records. It was then when he founded his own label, G-Unit, and began releasing independent albums. Eminem heard his Guess Who's Back? album and he signed him to Shady Records. Dr. Dre also liked the album and he signed him to Aftermath Entertainment.

Quickly, 50 Cent was the most intimidating figure in the rap game. His Get Rich or Die Tryin' album was a commercial and critical success. Following the success of his album, 50 Cent set up his own deal for G-Unit with Interscope Records. By 2005, 50 Cent had ventured into clothing and films. But, when his career hit a slide, he lost many of his ventures. In 2009, 50 Cent made it clear his relationship with Interscope Records was over and he was soon talking to other labels.

50 Cent established a new film company, Cheetah Vision Films and landed a $200 million deal with Lionsgate Films. During the summer of 2010, he moved G-Unit Records to EMI Records. Last month, he created a new label under G-Unit called G Note Records and he signed Governor. In 2011, 50 Cent will have more ventures on the way. He was able to enter the game as a rapper and now he holds stock in major companies, a board member with H&H Imports.

JR Staff Writer

LeBron James has made quite a name for himself on the basketball court. He spent seven seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, leading them to all-time winning records. Despite setting records, he could not lead them to a championship. After failing, yet again, in 2010, he bolted for Miami.

The Miami move hurt LeBron James' popularity, but his play has remained stellar. But, outside of basketball, LeBron James is looking to make his presence known. During the 2006-2007 season, James had a commercial series called The LeBrons. He has decided to revive them for a new animated series.

Last week, Drake joined the cast of the new series. Drake has been a big fan of LeBron James for years. The Toronto rapper recently said he wanted to make a song about James. In 2009, he was a major part of LeBron James' soundtrack for More Than A Game. The song, "Forever," which was led by Drake and featuring Lil Wayne, Kanye West, and Eminem, was inspired by LeBron James.

The NBA star continues to make moves, as he has recently added wife-to-be and "Clean House" alum, Niecy Nash, to the cast of his upcoming series. Nash will be providing the voice of Gloria, who serves as the mother-figure in the series. Like Drake, Niecy Nash is a fan of LeBron James and she quickly agreed to be a part of his new series. Having Drake already on the cast helped her make a decision quicker, as she also likes his music.

Ty Martin opens eyes with "Lord Why Me?"

Tuesday, October 5, 2010

By Mr. Hollywood
JR Staff Writer

Domestic abuse has become more and more common as the 2010s have arrived. The issue has been around since the beginning of time, but in the 1990s helplines were opened for abused people. But, as time has gone on, domestic abuse has been shown from both sides. Recently, it was almost glorified in the Eminem music video, "Love the way You Lie."

Following the release of the video, there was a major uproar. Now, following the summer of 2010, Atlanta playwright, Ty Martin has delivered his response. His play was not inspired by the video, but it comes at the right time. Martin follows the rules instilled during the childhood years, "keep your hands to yourself." Another childhood rule is "boys do not hit girls."

Ty Martin gives everyone a reminder of this in his latest play, "Lord why Me?" In the play, a woman is depicted in an abusive relationship and she has nowhere to turn. Based on a true story, Martin shows the pain and suffering people in abusive relationships go through. Unlike in the Eminem video, the violence is not glorified and the people leave entertained and with a lesson, the best of both worlds.

Currently, the play is being shown at The Buckhead Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, but tour dates will soon be announced.
