Tuesday, June 14, 2011

By The Music Scoop
JR Staff Writer

Almost every woman in front of the camera has had some kind of interaction with Sean "Diddy" Combs. If he has not dated, or had children by one woman, he has made music with another one. The newest woman in front of the camera is Kreayshawn. She is a white female rapper from the West Coast.

With Diddy's renewed focus on Bad Boy Records, he needed something new to attract fans. In 2009, he left Atlantic Records, his label of five years. After his departure from Atlantic Records, Diddy landed a bigger deal with Interscope Records. Aside from his record label, Diddy has been managing Rick Ross for over a year.

Kreayshawn had a chance to become Diddy's next leading lady, but she turned him down. Diddy offered her a lucrative deal with his label and she considered it. But, at the end of the day, Kreayshawn ended up signing to Columbia Records. She said she has a fatherly relationship with Diddy and that she keeps a picture of him and of herself from kindergarten with her at all times.

When she signed with Columbia Records, Kreayshawn said Diddy was highly upset with her and said he was going to sign her to a bigger deal.

In front of the camera, Felicia "Snoop" Pearson often plays the role of a tough woman. She rose to fame for her role on the critically-acclaimed HBO series, "The Wire." On the show, Pearson played the role of a hitwoman.

Following the cancellation of "The Wire," Pearson continued to be cast in those type of roles. In 2008, she was featured as a drug-runner in Rick Ross' video, "The Boss." Throughout the summer of 2008 and into the summer of 2009, Pearson played these roles in music videos.

Things became too real, however, when Felicia Pearson was brought up on drug charges. Pearson recently appeared in court over the charges. When she pled, she pled 'Not Guilty' of the charges. Pearson refused to comment when asked about the charges.

Last month, Felicia "Snoop" Pearson was released on $50,000 bail. Because she has been cast in a movie in the middle of the charges, Felicia Pearson has been granted permission to go to Philadelphia. Aside from her work, Felicia Pearson is not allowed to leave the city of Baltimore, her native city.

While on tour, hip hop and R&B artists need some form of entertainment. For years, there have been rumors about various celebrities hooking up with people during their stops. With the expansion of the internet and other online media, entertainers are caught with their pants down more often.

Rappers have turned this into another way they can boast about how much money they have. Birdman went to a strip club and was said to have spent $100,000. Rick Ross claimed to have spent $1 million at the popular King of Diamonds strip club. However, one of the strippers claimed he was lying about this.

Akon is known for providing hooks for many of the popular rappers and he also needs entertainment. Recently, he was in Rhole Island and he went to a local strip club. But, when he tried to enter, he was denied because he did not have state identification. Because of who he is, Akon expected to be able to enter the club with no hassle, he was fooled and forced to leave.

Teedra Moses talks Rick Ross and Maybach Music

Friday, April 22, 2011

By The Music Scoop
JR Staff Writer

Last year, Rick Ross finally earned respect as one of the most popular rappers in the game. In 2009, Ross flexed his muscle in the game and most people laughed him off. When he finally gained the respect, Ross had moved on to trying to be an executive in the game.

Not many people took Rick Ross seriously when he tried to sign current sensation, Wiz Khalifa, to Maybach Music. When Ross said he may sign Wale, all he did was fuel even more doubters and more laughter. All of this laughter stopped when Rick Ross actually signed Wale.

Barely a week later, Rick Ross added Meek Mill to the roster, which was followed by a bevvy of rappers. This is in addition to the artists he already had on the Maybach Music roster. A small bidding war took place over Rick Ross between Warner Bros., Def Jam, Cash Money, Roc Nation, and Bad Boy Records. However, in the end, Rick Ross decided to work with Warner Bros. Records.

Rick Ross added several rappers to the Maybach Music Group, but he surprised people when he added a vocalist. Teedra Moses became the first female signed to Maybach Music and the first singer. Recently, she discussed being a part of the movement. Moses said she was surprised when he signed her with all of the rappers being added to the label. Now, a part of Maybach Music, Teedra Moses understands the way things work and she sees how Rick Ross is adding all types of talent to have a well-rounded rapper.

Gone are the days when all of the artists on a label make the same type of music. More than a rap group, the boss of Miami is trying to build a solid record label.

Drake explains his Rugged Look

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

By Mr. Hollywood
JR Staff Writer

Following the release of 2010's Thank Me Later, Drake began to grow his beard out. Over the months, Drake allowed the beard to continue to grow. Now, many have criticized Drake over his seemingly inability to shave. Because of his Jewish background, many have credited him growing a beard to religion.

Last month, Drake referred to himself as the "world's coolest Jew," but he was quickly discredited. Before this, Drake also said he may return to acting before the end of 2011. Much of what Drake says is disgarded until confirmed by his management team. However, his new beard and acting return may require a little more attention.

For months, Drake has been growing the beard out. The most recent video of him and the facial hair is Rick Ross' "Made Men video." It seems to be a little something behind the Toronto rapper's new facial hairstyle. Despite his back and forths about style and his hair, Drake may actually be working. Many rumors suggest Drake is growing the beard for a new film role.

When asked about the beard, Drake hinted at it being a part of an upcoming film role. However, he did not reveal what film, if any, the beard was being grown out for. Until this is confirmed, the guessing game will continue.

Rick Ross and Chrisette Michele end feud?

Thursday, April 14, 2011

By The Music Scoop
JR Staff Writer

Rick Ross had a hit on his hands when he released the summer single, "Aston Martin Music." The song blended Ross' smooth flow with Chrisette Michele's nice voice. Quickly, the song became a hit on urban radio.

Overall, 2010 was a great year for Rick Ross, but it was not great enough. Despite his best efforts, Ross could not reach Eminem's level of popularity. The year before, Ross engaged in a feud with 50 Cent and called out Eminem.

Due to Rosss' own success during 2009 and 2010, he decided to move past the beef. But, everything came to a head at the 2010 Soul Train Awards. For the song of the year, Eminem's "Not Afraid" was going up against Rick Ross' "B.M.F." and Eminem won. In the show, Ross was also supposed to perform "Aston Martin Music."

But, when it was time for the performance, Rick Ross was nowhere to be found. Many, including his own label-mate and featured guest, Chrisette Michele, felt Ross was upset because he lost. She said he needed to get over himself and perform the song. The following day, Rick Ross said he did not perform the song because he had no creative control on how the performance would take place. Ross also responded to what his collaborator had to say.

For months, Rick Ross and Chrisette Michele have had nothing to say to each other. However, rumors suggest the two have put their past differences aside to reunite and possibly collaborate again.

L.A. Reid leaves Def Jam for "The X Factor"

Thursday, March 24, 2011

By TV Insider
JR Staff Writer

For nearly ten years, L.A. Reid has been running the show over at famed hip hop record label, Def Jam. During his tenure, Def Jam went from a big-time rap record label to focusing on R&B. This change in direction alienated many Def Jam fans. LL Cool J stated it was one of the reasons he ended up leaving the label.

Def Jam, despite the efforts of Kanye West and Rick Ross, has been on a steady decline for some time. Jay-Z stepped down as the CEO of the label and later as an artist. His entire Roc-A-Fella roster followed suit in 2008. When Jay-Z left, most of the Def Jam roster was looking for a way out.

Last summer, 50 Cent hinted at bringing his G-Unit label over to the struggling Def Jam label. Had he signed with Def Jam, the G-Unit roster would currently be posting hits for the label. But, when he opted for more creative control at EMI Records, Def Jam was hit with another blow. Now, with Rick Ross preparing to leave the label, along with Kanye West, L.A. Reid has jumped ship.

Last week, L.A. Reid revealed he was leaving Def Jam to host the new Simon Cowell series, "The X Factor."

Keri Hilson discusses the Rap Game

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

By The Music Scoop
JR Staff Writer

Recently, Keri Hilson discussed her love for rappers and the rap game. For years, Keri Hilson worked behind the scenes as a songwriter. In late 2006, she decided she wanted to step into the spotlight and planned to release her album in 2007. For unknown reasons, her debut album was delayed.

With the help of Lil Wayne, her single "Turnin' Me On," became a major hit. The popularity of the song helped her land a secure release date for In A Perfect World... Upon its release, the album would become a major success. The album was noted for its hip hop collaborations.

Last year, Keri Hilson returned with her second album and it features the same format. Ever since her 2009 explosion, Hilson has worked with several rappers. When she was asked about her favorite collaboration, Keri Hilson said it was "Turnin' Me On" with Lil Wayne. However, her longtime dream was to record with Nas, which she did on 2008's "Hero."

Along the way, Keri Hilson has also collaborated with T.I., Fabolous, Kanye West, and Rick Ross. Hilson said she loves rap just as much as she loves R&B. While Keri Hilson has love for rappers, she does not see herself dating a rapper anytime soon. The lifestyle most rappers lead is too much for a girl like her. Because of this, she stays away from relationships, outside of the friend zone, with rappers. She has seen how many other R&B ladies, outside of Beyonce have been treated by rappers and made a safe decision.

By The Music Scoop
JR Staff Writer

As the year comes to a close, Keri Hilson is preparing to release the follow-up to last year's debut, In a Perfect World... The album, which is titled No Boys Allowed, is an effort by Keri to show the world she is a female that can hold her own alongside the men.

The title of the album has turned heads, but Keri Hilson said she is not trying to exclude men. She proved this by teaming up with the likes of Kanye West and Chris Brown for the record. Not only is she working with them, but Hilson also has a track with the ever-popular Rick Ross, "The Way You Love Me."

A music video has already been filmed for her single with Ross and it will soon be released. On this album, Hilson wanted to invite men on the record and leave the boys at home. The album will feature the previously mentioned tracks and the collaborations, along with her hit single, seemingly a response to "Pretty Boy Swag" by Soulja Boy, "Pretty Girl Rock."

Keri Hilson plans to release No Boys Allowed on December 21, 2010. She will be making a host of appearances in order to promote for the album.

Stacey Dash finds success as Hip Hop Video Vixen

Sunday, May 23, 2010

Not even two years ago, there was a lot of outrage about hip hop music videos. Rappers were openly exploiting women in their videos. Civil Rights leaders wanted to step in and try to make these rappers change their ways. The message to the young women in the video was they would never make it by dancing half-naked in music videos.

A lot of the women who appeared in these music videos had their eyes focused on being Hollywood stars. But, they were told the best they would get was a minor role in a hip hop film because they were only seen as meat. In the time since the public outcry over the raunchy videos, a lot of vixens have stepped up. The most notable is Tahiry Jose.

While the women once known as "hip hop honeys" have decided they are better than doing music videos, Stacey Dash has had no problem stepping in. She has been a star since the mid-1980s. Many of the women who starred in music videos had their sights set on becoming the next Stacey Dash. They were being told the only way to do so would be to dump the music videos and try a real acting role. Taking that advice, Stacey Dash traded in Hollywood for the music videos.

Over the past ten years, Dash has been making the transition away from Hollywood and into music videos, but the transition has been gradual. In 2001, she starred in the music video of Bad Boy Records' singer, Carl Thomas for his "Emotional" video. Three years later, she was the star of Kanye West's "All Falls Down" video and she later starred in Marques Houston's "Favorite Girl" video. In between time, Dash was still starring in movies and making television appearances. However, as the time has gone on, she has settled in the role of video vixen. In the spring of 2010, alone, Stacey Dash has starred in music videos for Game and Rick Ross, both videos are receiving regular rotation on music video channels.

The initial video vixens felt they were too good to do music videos. As a result, they have gone on to create huge followings over the internet. While the women simply trying to get a foot in the door decided they were better than music videos, a true star and veteran in Stacey Dash has decided to step away from Hollywood in an effort to become a video vixen.

Stacey Dash stars in Rick Ross' video

Monday, April 26, 2010

Having been in the game for some time, there is not much that Stacey Dash has not done. She has made a career for herself based off of her looks. Her pretty face made her into a star, but her curvy body is what kept her in business. Because the times have changed, her star has dimmed. Despite all of that, Dash remains in the game.

In 2004, rapper Kanye West gave her a much-appreciated boost when he featured her in the video for "All Falls Down." It did wonders in reintroducing Dash to the game. She went on a bit of a rise. Last season, Stacey Dash landed a recurring role on the hit sitcom, "The Game." But, the cancellation and renewal has wiped her role out.

While she may not have a television show, Stacey Dash will be on television screens for a while. Rapper Rick Ross released the first single from his Teflon Don album last month and the song has become a hit. As it currently stands, Rick Ross is one of the hottest rappers in the game. Most of his music ends up being popular.

With Stacey Dash in the video, her face is likely to appear on MTV, VH1, and BET throughout the summer of 2010. Because of who she is, Dash will draw in a large male audience to the video, herself. Because of who he is, Rick Ross is likely to have this video top "106 & Park" regardless of who is featured alongside he and Ne-Yo in the video.
