Domestic abuse has become more and more common as the 2010s have arrived. The issue has been around since the beginning of time, but in the 1990s helplines were opened for abused people. But, as time has gone on, domestic abuse has been shown from both sides. Recently, it was almost glorified in the Eminem music video, "Love the way You Lie."
Following the release of the video, there was a major uproar. Now, following the summer of 2010, Atlanta playwright, Ty Martin has delivered his response. His play was not inspired by the video, but it comes at the right time. Martin follows the rules instilled during the childhood years, "keep your hands to yourself." Another childhood rule is "boys do not hit girls."
Ty Martin gives everyone a reminder of this in his latest play, "Lord why Me?" In the play, a woman is depicted in an abusive relationship and she has nowhere to turn. Based on a true story, Martin shows the pain and suffering people in abusive relationships go through. Unlike in the Eminem video, the violence is not glorified and the people leave entertained and with a lesson, the best of both worlds.
Currently, the play is being shown at The Buckhead Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, but tour dates will soon be announced.
