In 2007, 50 Cent made a shocking statement when he revealed he had dropped Olivia from G-Unit Records. At the peak of his feud with Ja Rule, 50 Cent signed Olivia to serve as his "Ashanti." Despite being brutally dissed by 50 Cent and his associates, Ja Rule made a strong comeback in 2004 and 50 Cent countered with Olivia.

50 Cent had a strong year, in 2005, when he released his album and the hit single, "Candy Shop." The song featured Olivia on the hook and was embedded in the brain of many fans. At the time, it seemed as if the future was very bright for Olivia. She had a previous record deal with J Records, but things did not work out for her.

Two years into her time at G-Unit, Olivia was dropped from the label, but 50 Cent said there was no beef. However, before the end of 2007, 50 Cent dissed Olivia, saying she likely had a sexual relationship with Missy Elliott. While Olivia denied having a sexual relationship with Missy Elliott, there were rumors that she and 50 Cent had something going on.

When asked about her relationship with 50 Cent, Olivia said they kept it professional at all times. However, when she was asked about her departure from G-Unit Records, Olivia said she has not been completely paid for her time with the label. Olivia said she and 50 Cent have talked several times about the money he owes her and she said he will be paying her back.

For years, 50 Cent tried to brand his entire company as the toughest of the tough. But, after making enemies out of 90% of the hip hop community and fans, 50 Cent has sharpened his business skills. The head of G-Unit Enterprises has been working hard to alter his image from a gangster to a businessman.

50 Cent has expanded his company to include the successful film company, Cheetah Vision Films. The new company has already produced over five films. Lionsgate Entertainment, the distributor for both Tyler Perry and Ice Cube, recently inked a $200 million deal with his company for three new projects.

Dominating the film industry, 50 Cent is not quite done with the music scene. 50 Cent has been said to be recording a new album and he expanded G-Unit Records to include G-Note Records. The sub-label already has a signed artist, Governor, a former act of Grand Hustle, T.I.'s label. 50 Cent is expanding all of his businesses in order to catch back up with Jay-Z and Diddy.

In an effort to make G-Unit Records more appealing to the mainstream, he has signed DJ Pauly D, one of the "Jersey Shore" stars, to his label. The rumor has been circulating for weeks and was recently confirmed by in-house G-Unit DJ, Whoo Kid. DJ Whoo Kid said 50 Cent is trying to make music for everyone in the future, so he is adding all types of artists to G-Unit Records.

50 Cent making moves Outside of Rap

Saturday, March 12, 2011

Eight years ago, the world was introduced to 50 Cent, the toughest guy in the rap world. Years before the world discovered who he was, 50 was actually one of the meanest thugs on the streets of New York. He had a gift for rapping and decided to pursue it when his son was born and teamed up with Jam Master Jay.

Jam Master Jay taught 50 Cent a lot of what he knows, but did not show a sense of urgency when releasing his music. Because of this, 50 decided to take matters into his own hands. Soon, 50 Cent began releasing his own music. 50 Cent pitched himself to Columbia Records and was signed.

Things had finally turned around for 50 Cent when he was shot and dropped from Columbia Records. It was then when he founded his own label, G-Unit, and began releasing independent albums. Eminem heard his Guess Who's Back? album and he signed him to Shady Records. Dr. Dre also liked the album and he signed him to Aftermath Entertainment.

Quickly, 50 Cent was the most intimidating figure in the rap game. His Get Rich or Die Tryin' album was a commercial and critical success. Following the success of his album, 50 Cent set up his own deal for G-Unit with Interscope Records. By 2005, 50 Cent had ventured into clothing and films. But, when his career hit a slide, he lost many of his ventures. In 2009, 50 Cent made it clear his relationship with Interscope Records was over and he was soon talking to other labels.

50 Cent established a new film company, Cheetah Vision Films and landed a $200 million deal with Lionsgate Films. During the summer of 2010, he moved G-Unit Records to EMI Records. Last month, he created a new label under G-Unit called G Note Records and he signed Governor. In 2011, 50 Cent will have more ventures on the way. He was able to enter the game as a rapper and now he holds stock in major companies, a board member with H&H Imports.

G-Unit was on top of the game by 2004. 50 Cent had established himself as the top rapper in the game. But, he did something most popular rappers do not, he developed more popular artists. In 2004, alone, G-Unit posted hits from Young Buck and Lloyd Banks, outside of 50 Cent.

50 Cent envisioned himself fully replacing Murder Inc. Ja Rule was posting platinum hits throughout his career, but he took over the game after he paired with Ashanti. 50 Cent had taken over the game, but he wanted more. He signed Olivia and intended to make her into his Ashanti.

Things were going great by 2005, as they prepared for Game's debut album release. However, a feud broke out between Game and 50 Cent and the movement fell apart. Game went from being the biggest G-Unit soldier to being the biggest rival of G-Unit. Soon, he began releasing several G-Unit disses, targeting not only 50 Cent, but also Olivia.

During her time with G-Unit, Game often said Olivia was transgendered. Even with his frequent disses, Olivia never responded to Game's digs. By 2007, Olivia also saw her self off the G-Unit label, like Game. 50 Cent dissed Olivia and Game immediately stopped. Recently, Olivia opened up on the "beef" with Game. She said she never responded to him because she does not respond to immature people. Olivia never understood why she was being dissed by Game. After all, the feud was between Game and 50 Cent.

Olivia said she always laughed each time Game dissed her.

Olivia to open up on G-Unit on New Album

Monday, May 3, 2010

Olivia has been in the game for a long time. Most people credit Alicia Keys as the first artist signed to J Records. However, before Alicia Keys was signed, Olivia was and she released her debut album in 2001. Because her image did not catch on with the fans, she was dropped after the release of Olivia.

During the summer of 2004, Olivia would end up signing with G-Unit Records. At the time, 50 Cent was obsessed with taking everything that made Ja Rule successful. For most of his career, Ja Rule made hits because of his trusty female singing sidekick Ashanti. In an effort to emulate their success, 50 Cent teamed up with Olivia.

Perhaps because their union was created out of spite, 50 Cent and Olivia did not catch on past their chart-topping hit, “Candy Shop.” In the time since then 50 Cent had planned to release her debut album in 2006. But, the lead single, “Best Friend (remix),” was not the success that G-Unit had expected it to be.

Early in 2007, 50 Cent revealed that Olivia was no longer signed to G-Unit. At the time, he said that there was no feud. Instead, he said that it was hard to work Olivia into the system when she had her own team. 50 Cent said that at one point the only way to get up with her was to speak with Missy Elliott. He would also hint to a physical relationship between the two.

However, last year Olivia had negative things to say about 50 Cent and G-Unit. She said that they wanted to fill her album with verses from Lloyd Banks, 50 Cent, and Tony Yayo. That was something that she could not agree to. Olivia revealed this, not her being unavailable, as the reason that she was dropped from G-Unit. 50 Cent later said he spent $2 million on her with no return and she argued that he should have spent $4 million.

Finally free from G-Unit and in a contract with Universal Records, Olivia is finally ready to release her long-awaited sophomore album. Tentatively titled Show the World, Olivia is planning to open up on what really happened with G-Unit. Even though she has said some things about G-Unit, she plans to expose even more.
There is no set release date for Show the World.

50 Cent making wise Business Moves

Tuesday, April 6, 2010

Towards the end of last year, 50 Cent left his longtime recording home of Interscope Records. Ever since 2007, he had been feuding with the label. Right before he released his Curtis album, 50 Cent said that he would leave Interscope after he released his next album. The situation did not improve and 50 Cent left.

Not only did 50 Cent remove himself from the Interscope roster, but he also removed his G-Unit Records off of the label, too. The question now is where are they moving to. During his time with the major label, Interscope, 50 Cent boasted that he would never record for an independent label.

Ironically, 50 Cent is now looking to land a deal with an independent record label. Now that he no longer has the promotional muscle of Interscope Records, it is up to 50 Cent to promote his artists. He is doing just that, too. Instead of hiring big-name music video directors, 50 Cent is directing the videos, himself.

By removing himself from Interscope Records, 50 Cent feels that he can revive himself, entirely. Now, he is just like many other businessmen, all on his own. For years, he has only had the responsibility to record music and profit off of his artists. Now, everything that Interscope did it is up to him to do. 50 Cent has responded to the challenge and he is setting up an exclusive distribution deal for G-Unit Records. In the meantime, he launched a new film company and he is looking to revive G-Unit Clothing. Last year, his profits were down a bit and 50 Cent is planning to rebuild his entire empire.
