In 2009, Jada Pinkett Smith debuted the role of Christina Hawthorne on the TNT series, "HawthoRNe." Through the series, Pinkett has become a fixture on television screens. Before the show, she was known for her movie roles and as the wife of film star, Will Smith.

Both Jada and her husband, Will, have goals of their family being full of talent. Their son, Jaden, starred in a remake of the hit film series, The Karate Kid. Last fall, Willow Smith landed a record deal with Roc Nation, Jay-Z's record label. This resulted in her hit single, "Whip My Hair."

Obviously, Will and Jada are business-minded individuals, which is why they made a deal with Jay-Z. Quickly, the three of them put their heads together about Willow. The trio entered a film venture and obtained the rights to remake the classic Annie film, with Willow Smith playing the role of the new 'Annie.'

Jada Pinkett Smith said they decided to work with Jay-Z because he has been a strong partner in other ventures. She, Will, and Jay-Z co-produced the Broadway play, 'Fela.' With Jay-Z as Willow's manager and partner in the plays and Carol's Daughter, it was a no-brainer for them all to team up to deliver a 21st century version of Annie.
