During his time at Def Jam, Jay-Z added plenty of talent to the roster. Despite being a major rapper, Jay added multiple R&B acts to the famed hip hop label. Ne-Yo was among the R&B artists added to the label. Much of Ne-Yo's success has been credited to him being recruited by Jay-Z.

For years, Ne-Yo had been in the background, writing songs for other major artists. Those close to Ne-Yo argued he was just as good, if not better, than the people he wrote for. After years of urging, Ne-Yo finally recorded his own album. Jay-Z helped him land a deal with Def Jam.

Soon, the two collaborated on Jay-Z's Kingdom Come comeback album. Ne-Yo provided the hook for his single, "Minority Report," but the song was not a major hit. Ne-Yo had also recorded the hook for "Make Me Better," a song intended for Jay-Z. But, Jay-Z felt the song would not fit his album, so he gave the beat to Fabolous. The song became a major hit for Fabolous.

Ne-Yo is ready to record a song with Jay-Z. The two have only appeared on two tracks together over the span of Ne-Yo's five year career. Later this year, Ne-Yo plans to release another album and he wants to do a song with Jay-Z. He wants this song to not only top their prior collaborations, but to also top all of their other songs. Ne-Yo is ready to make a classic song with Jay-Z.
