When Idris Elba was cast in Thor as the role of a Nordic god, everyone had an opinion. The black community was clearly glad a black actor landed such a role. But, many white media outlets have been upset by this news. Many say they do not feel it is right for an actor of color to portray the role of a white god.

The god Idris Elba is playing is the whitest of white gods and they feel a white actor should portray this role. There has been much discussion about this over the past few months. Happy to be in the role, the outspoken Elba has kept his mouth shut. But, as more and more people discuss the role, he has spoken out.

Not only are the critics talking, but several fans of the gods have spoken out. They have taken to several forums to vent about Elba playing the role of a white god. In their eyes, it is disrespectful to have a black man playing the role of a god. They want to keep the integrity of the film intact by not having a black man in such a role.

Recently, Idris Elba hit back at all of the criticism. Elba is an actor, which means he is cast to pretend to be different people. When white people are cast in black roles, it is viewed as a challenge and they are hailed as geniuses. But, with Idris Elba playing the role of a white god, the casting is disrespectful. In response to all of the criticism, Elba said it is ridiculous. He said the websites are crazy to think he will not be able to play the role of a white god, simply because he is black.
