Tuesday, June 1, 2010

In the late 1970s, Todd Bridges met Gary Coleman on the set of their sitcom, "Diff'rent Strokes." Because they were close in age, the two would become good friends. For the next eight years, the boys would grow up together. Playing brothers, on-screen, they formed a brotherly relationship and it never died. Any time either man was going through something, they could always count on each other.

Gary Coleman was taken for a joke throughout his entire adult life, but he always had Todd Bridges to back him up. No matter how bad it appeared Coleman messed up, Todd always defended him. Probably the toughest thing they went through was the death of their former co-star, Dana Plato. During this time, they all acted as if they were a true family. Out of all of the people Gary Coleman disliked, Todd Bridges never made the list.

One battle Todd Bridges could not help Gary Coleman through was the final fight of his life. Last week, Gary Coleman died of a brain hemorrhage and Todd Bridges watched, along with the rest of the nation, in shock after Coleman actually died. Because his on-screen brother was dead, Bridges had to begin speaking to the media. Not only were they television brothers, but they were also good friends. With the death of Gary Coleman, Todd Bridges is the only surviving child of Phillip Drummond. The surviving cast of "Diff'rent Strokes" has been together throughout this ordeal, speaking with the public.

Recently, Todd Bridges spoke on the loss of Gary Coleman. On the day of his death, Bridges spoke from the hospital in Provo, Utah where Coleman died. He said the death of his former co-star was sad and tragic. He went on to mention how sad it was for him being the only Drummond child left. Despite the down times he has had, in recent years Todd Bridges has been doing very well for himself. From 2007 until 2009, Bridges starred on the hit CW sitcom, "Everybody Hates Chris." However, he soon found himself unemployed, but looking, after the network decided to cancel the sitcom.
