LeBron James wins second MVP award

Monday, May 3, 2010

Ever since he first arrived in the NBA right out of high school, LeBron James has been compared to the legendary Michael Jordan. Growing up, James idolized Jordan and he has modeled aspects of his game around the legend. Because Jordan wore the number 23 jersey, James decided to wear the number 23 jersey.

However, until last year, LeBron James was not very Jordan-like. It was not until he pulled his team together and led his Cleveland Cavaliers to a league-best 66-16 record that people began to realize how great James is. In the 2009 NBA playoffs, James led his team to two sweeps over both the Detroit Pistons and the Atlanta Hawks. Those efforts were rewarded with the MVP.

Following his heartbreaking loss to the Orlando Magic in the conference finals, LeBron James shifted his focus to the next season. The goal throughout this season has been to win the NBA championship. Unlike last season, his team fell short of 66 wins, but they still managed to post the best record in the league. Led by LeBron, the Cavs won 61 games.

While the focus for this season is to win the NBA title, LeBron James has elevated his play, but his team is not quite as smooth. In the first round against the Chicago Bulls, James led his team to a victory in five games, as opposed to a sweep. Still, James set the bar so high last season that he does not have to accomplish all that he accomplished last season.

LeBron James did not lead his team to as many victories last season as he has this season, but he still led his team to the top of the league standings. Because of that, LeBron James has won his second MVP award in as many seasons.
