Monica talks Lil' Kim's absence on New Single

Friday, July 15, 2011

By The Music Scoop
JR Staff Writer

Attempting to follow in the footsteps of Keyshia Cole, Monica recruited Lil' Kim and Missy Elliott for a new single. Much like the breakout Keyshia Cole hit, "Let it Go," Monica sampled a beat from The Notorious B.I.G. The new Monica single samples the controversial "Who Shot Ya."

Unlike Keyshia Cole, in 2007, Monica has had some issues with her song. The Lil' Kim verse was omitted from the song, because Voletta Wallace, the mother of Biggie, has blocked her. When the song was released, many wondered why Lil' Kim's verse was taken off the song.

Monica confronted all of the questions through her Twitter. She said she was beyond disappointed at what happened. Monica said both she and Missy Elliott are hurt. Due to the fact that Lil' Kim is both their friend, and a legend, they feel as if Lil' Kim should be a part of the single. Unlike them, Lil' Kim had an actual relationship with The Notorious B.I.G.

Monica also revealed she is fighting as hard as she can to get Lil' Kim back on the record. She is doing this for two reasons, the first is because Lil' Kim's verse is the best on the song, and the second is because she has much love for Lil' Kim. However, with Voletta Wallace pulling the strings, they will be sued if they release the Lil' Kim version of the song.

Faith Evans files for Divorce from Husband

Sunday, May 22, 2011

By Mr. Hollywood
JR Staff Writer

Before The Notorious B.I.G.'s death, his marriage to Faith Evans was pretty much over. While he was on the road, having relationships with other women, Evans had filed for separation. In the months before B.I.G.'s death, Faith Evans had started dating record executive, Todd Russaw.

Shortly after B.I.G.'s death, Evans gave birth to Joshua, her first child with Russaw. In 1998, the couple wed and they have appeared to be a happy couple. Often, the two make public appearances together. But, behind closed doors, things were not quite as happy.

Despite The Notorious B.I.G. being deceased, in many ways, his wife is still Faith Evans. When she speaks of him, it is obvious she still has romantic feelings for him. For any man, that has to be something tough to accept. Yesterday, several websites reported Faith Evans had filed for divorce from her husband.

While not providing many details, Evans cites irreconcilable differences and asked for full custody of the children. More than likely, Evans and Russaw will share joint custody.

Diddy explains cancelled Concert Stops

Saturday, April 30, 2011

By The Music Scoop
JR Staff Writer

Aside from being one of the top businessmen in the world, Diddy is also a popular hip hop artist. At least he was one of the top artists during the 1990s. Over the years, he has watched as listeners have tuned him out in favor of other artists. From the beginning, Diddy said he was not a rapper.

While Diddy is not a rapper, he said he has to finish what he started, regardless of what it is. Diddy began his rap career as a hobby, but began taking it seriously when The Notorious B.I.G. died. As the flagship artist of Bad Boy Records, he could not just back away from the spotlight.

Diddy is now focused on maintaining his businesses, so he cannot continue his career. Last year's Last Train to Paris is his final album before he gives it up. With the album comes the "Coming Home" tour, which is him "coming home" from Paris. Several of the stops have been removed from the tour, but without an explanation.

With it all in the past, Diddy admits the reason the tour has cancelled dates in Florida and Mississippi is because the ticket sales have been low.

The Notorious B.I.G.'s son to appear in Will Ferrell film

Friday, April 1, 2011

By The Film Critic
JR Staff Writer

The Notorious B.I.G. would be very proud of his son, Christopher Wallace, Jr. if he were still here. Primarily known for being the son of the dead icon, Wallace has been making a name for himself. But, the junior has avoided the rap game. Instead, Christopher Wallace, Jr. is making a name for himself as an actor.

Two years ago, Wallace was cast as the child version of his deceased father in the Notorious film. In the time since his role in the classic film, he has remained out the public eye. Acting comes natural to the young star, as his mother, Faith Evans, has had roles in many films over the years.

It appears as if Christopher Wallace is preparing for his break outside of being known for his parents. The fourteen year old actor was recently cast in Will Ferrell's Everything Must Go. Wallace will have a pivotal role in the upcoming movie. The film will be a slight change for Ferrell, primarily known for his comedic roles.

While Everything Must Go will have several comedic elements, the film will also undertake a serious tone.

Is Drake a legend after One Album?

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

There has been a lot of discussion about Drake over the past few years. People laughed when Jimmy from "Degrassi" decided he wanted to be a rapper. Around the same time, Lil Wayne was working with many different artists. Lil Wayne was featured on the first Drake mixtape. 50 Cent called Wayne a music whore after this.

50 Cent said Drake was not even a real rapper, instead he was an actor for a Canadian teenage soap opera. Drake knew about the diss from 50 Cent, but he chose not to respond. Instead, he gathered his thoughts and began working on his next release. Again, Drake teamed up with Lil Wayne.

The frustration and the help from Lil Wayne ended up making his second mixtape, So Far Gone. Because of the quality of the mixtape, some people mistook it for an album. It featured big-time collaborations and radio singles. "Best I Ever Had" and "Successful" both ended up having music videos.

Many people wanted Drake to rush and release an album before the end of 2009. This was something he could not do, even as badly as he loved his fans. Drake wanted to wait before putting out his debut album because he wanted it to be classic. He sat back and listened to Nas, much of Thank Me Later was inspired by Nas' debut album, Illmatic. Only one day after the release of Thank Me Later, it was hailed as an instant classic by Hip Hop Vibe. The album has been met with positive reivews and he has earned comparisons to the legends in the game.

Looking back at Jay-Z, The Notorious B.I.G., Nas, AZ, and Raekwon, those rappers were legends after the release of their debut album. In the time since their debuts, there have not been too many rappers to release classic debut albums. At the time of its release, 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin' was considered a classic, but it has not aged well over time. This is because of the hardcore focus of the album and his revenge against those who wronged him. Drake, on the other hand, is simply declaring his arrival to the game and assuming his position.

Thank Me Later has already gone down in the books as a classic album and Drake is being referred to as legendary. Of course, his performance on the album is legendary. But, after recording one album and it being well-received, is Drake a legend?

Diddy is exposed by Biggie's first Baby Mama

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Ever since the death of The Notorious B.I.G., Diddy has often told the story of how Biggie was his best friend. Recently, he revealed that he allowed him to stay in Los Angeles an extra night, which is what partially caused his death. Still, he has always shown an image of support to the family of B.I.G.

It was not until a few years ago when Voletta Wallace, the mother of The Notorious B.I.G. revealed that she had an issue with Diddy that the people began to realize that things were not as they appeared to be. With the thirteenth anniversary of his death, many black media outlets have had stories about his death. BET actually reached out to B.I.G.'s original baby mama.

When she was asked about her relationship with Diddy, she said that there was not one. She said that Diddy had never reached out to her before his death, or after. However, she did admit that he does have a relationship with T'yanna, their daughter. Because her daughter receives major compensation because of the death of her father, she said that Diddy does not take care of her. However, he never offered to, either.
