Early in her career, Ciara made hits under the guidance of Missy Elliott. Her first two albums were major commercial and critical successes. However, when she released her third album, Jive Records was not very supportive of the release. Still, her album managed to sell well and she posted a top ten hit.
Throughout most of 2010, Ciara stayed in the public eye through her rivalry with Keri Hilson. Still, she was having issues with her label when it came to the promotion of her album. Basic Instinct has yet to sell 40,000 copies. Due to the low sales of the album, Ciara fought to get off Jive Records.
Having been off the label for months, Ciara announced she would be working with Keri Hilson. Two songs will be recorded and released, one for each of their respective albums. Now, there are several reports saying Ciara has signed with Epic Records, now led by L.A. Reid. In addition to his role on the new series, "The X Factor," Reid is the head of Epic Records.
Late last year, L.A. Reid left his position with Island Def Jam. At the time, it seemed as if he left for the role on "The X Factor." Despite taking the TV role, Reid said he may still launch a record label, which he did. Then, after launching the record label, L.A. Reid took the head job at Epic Records.
