Dwyane Wade wins 2011 Fatherhood Award

Last season, Dwyane Wade was having the fight for his life, but it came off the court. Wade and his ex-wife, Siohvaughn Wade, were battling for their two children. Following their 2007 split, Dwyane began dating Gabrielle Union. Media insiders said the Wade children quickly bonded with Union.

This bond came at the expense of Siohvaughn and she did not take it lying down. Instead, she filed a lawsuit in order to receive primary custody of her children. Her case was based on how intimate Wade and Union were in the presence of the children. Despite being in the middle of a court battle, Dwyane Wade handled things well.

During the 2010 season, Dwyane Wade said basketball was therapy, taking his mind off the trial. But, with his team struggling for most of the season, basketball was not very theraputic. Instead, everywhere he turned, there was a struggle. Still, Wade emerged triumphant and he won custody of his two sons. In addition to keeping his sons, Wade almost recaptured the NBA championship last week.

The fruits of his hard labor ended up being the 2011 Fatherhood Award.
