As he has been working on his fourth album, Akonic, Akon has been busy with other projects. The Senegal native has been included in two major comebacks in the past few months. Before his death, Michael Jackson was planning his comeback tour, which was to be followed by a comeback album, but this was stopped by his death.

Upon hearing some of the material, Sony Music realized it was too good to go to waste. The label recruited Akon to helm the new album from Michael Jackson. Akon brought on many other celebrities to help finish the album. The lead single, "Hold my Hand," features Akon and was used as promotional material for the album.

Aside from his work with Michael Jackson, Dr. Dre called upon Akon to help him launch his Detox album. Akon provided the chorus for his hit single, "Kush." Behind the scenes, Akon has done plenty of work with Dr. Dre, as he works closely with many artists affiliated with Interscope Records. With his popularity at a high, fans in Singapore wanted to see him in person.

Before even negotiating, Akon was paid $125,000 upfront to perform in Singapore. After accepting the money, Akon cancelled the show. Despite cancelling the show, he did not return the money to A&M Entertainment. The company has filed a suit against Akon's promotional company, demanding their down payment back after Akon did not perform, as promised.
