After spending a year away from the game to build a family, Keyshia Cole was eager to stage a comeback. Despite only being away for a year, the people forgot about Keyshia Cole. While she was gone, a new female took over the game. Nicki Minaj has been the top female artist in both rap and R&B in 210.
Keyshia Cole needed someone popular for her new album, so she called on Nicki Minaj. The two recorded "I Ain't Thru" and Cole released it as the first single. She assumed the single would become a hit because every other song with Nicki Minaj on it has. But, she was fooled when the song did not even chart on the Billboard Hot 100.
Now that the song has bombed, Keyshia Cole is very disappointed along with Interscope Records. She admitted they did not want her to release "I Ain't Thru" as the lead single. The label knew the fans would prefer something soulful from Keyshia Cole for the lead single. Keyshia Cole knew this too, but she decided to go with a quick hit.
Despite the single being a failure, Keyshia Cole said she does not have any regrets. She said "I Ain't Thru" was her statement song and she would do it all again if she had to. She said all of this is simply a part of her growth as an artist.
