Drake explains Trey Songz friendship

Before his Young Money days, Drake was a former actor trying to become a rapper. For the longest time, not too many people took him seriously. His early mixtapes did not do much to help matters. But, in 2007, Trey Songz gave him a chance and worked with him.

During their time working together, Drake and Trey Songz made great music. When Drake hit it big early in 2009, he relied on Trey more than anyone else in the game. It was during this period of time that he learned who his real friends were. However, soon, a decision was made and Drake signed with Young Money.

The two went their separate ways and have not had an official collaboration since the "I Invented Sex (remix)." Despite not doing much music together, they are in the Kodak advertising campaign together. Even when they are not working, Drake revealed that he makes time to reach out to his friend, Trey Songz.

Drake said he regards Trey Songz as his best friend. The relationship started out through music, but has grown to be so much more. He said he calls Trey and he tells him everything. The reason the two get along so well is because they are living parallel lives. Currently, Drake is sitting on top of the rap world and Trey is sitting on top of the R&B world. Right now, they are both living in the spotlight and the top gets very lonely, luckily they have each other.
