Damon Dash revives Roc-A-Fella Records

Tuesday, May 4, 2010

Ten years ago, Dash was the head of the Roc-A-Fella empire. The empire was based upon the mafia lifestyle and was made popular by half-naked women in videos. While he admitted that life was fun, he said that he has grown past it.

In fact, Dame Dash said that if he saw a man pour champagne on a woman now, he would be offended. There were multiple Jay-Z videos in which Dame could be seen pouring some form of liquor on various women. But, now that he is nearing 40 years old, he has slowed his lifestyle down quite a bit. Now, Dash is all about reclaiming what was his.

Around the time Jay-Z was preparing to release The Blueprint 3, Dame Dash returned to the spotlight. For years, Dash had bee hidden in the background while former Roc-A-Fella members talked about their time on the label. As many already know, Jay-Z left the label he created with Dash in favor of Roc Nation in 2008. With Jay-Z gone, such artists as Memphis Bleek would also leave the label. Because there were no more artists on the label, Roc-A-Fella Records was irrelevant by the time The Blueprint 3 was released.

Dame Dash spoke on the status of the label and he said that it was a shame that Jay-Z allowed the label to fall apart the way that it did. With the way that Dame was talking, it appeared as if he had plans of reviving the label. In fact, Hip Hop Vibe even posted an article about Dash possibly coming and returning the label to past prominence. Despite the possibility, no official announcement was made. However, last month, Dash was spotted with Jay-Z and it was said that they had discussed reviving the Roc. Now, two weeks later, it appears as if Roc-A-Fella Records is on the way back.

Jay-Z and Damon Dash reunite for Roc-A-Fella?

Monday, April 5, 2010

Two years ago, the demise of Roc-A-Fella Records was complete when Jay-Z left the label. He had teamed up with Live Nation to create a new label, Roc Nation. Following his departure from his old label, most of the roster dispersed. Upon the release of the first album from Jay-Z after the Roc, many former Roc-A-Fella acts were questioned about the status of the label.

Aside from the other artists that were signed to the label, another person vocal about the label was Damon Dash. While the label was made popular by Jay-Z, Dash was actually the one who created the label. In one interview, he said that he did not mind reuniting with Jay-Z. He also said that it is a shame about what happened with the old label.

Recently, a dinner was held and attended by Jay-Z and Dash. In the time since the interview, Jay has remained silent. Meanwhile, the "silent partner" has been very vocal about the reunion. He was seen throwing up the old Roc-A-Fella dynasty sign and saying Roc for life. Despite the statements that have been coming from Dash, he has neither confirmed or denied that he and Jay-Z could be reuniting to revive the old Roc-A-Fella Records.

Damon Dash moves from Hip Hop to Art

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

In a time not so long ago, Damon Dash was considered a hip hop king, but after being ousted from Roc-A-Fella Records, things changed. His attempt to create a rival label failed, horribly. For the past few years, Dash has remained in the game as a voice. But, it was revealed recently that the former hip hop CEO was broke.

For people who listened to Jay-Z in the late 1990s and up until the mid-2000s, this came as a shock. Dash would often be featured in the videos of Jay-Z living like a king. He enjoyed the good life for a decade, but the Roc-A-Fella situation and bad investments ended his gravy train. Yes, Dame Dash lost it all, but he is determined to get it back.

Recently, Damon Dash spoke on his future. Even when he discusses his future, it is impossible for Dash to avoid talking about his past. Again, he said that he could never be upset with Jay-Z. With all of the money that they made, there was nothing to be made about. However, his future will not consist of Jay-Z. Instead, he is moving into the art scene.
