In the short year "Basketball Wives" has been on television, it has become a major hit in the urban entertainment market. With other shows, such as "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," on hiatus, VH1's hit has risen to become a favorite in many households.

"Basketball Wives" was created by Shaunie O'Neal, the ex-wife of the legendary Shaquille O'Neal. Their marriage had been on the rocks for years and they finally decided to call it quits. Wanting something of her own, Shaunie created "Basketball Wives."

While the splitting couple appeared to be working on finding a compromise, this went out of the window when "Basketball Wives" was announced. Shaquille O'Neal threatened to take legal action if his name was mentioned on the show.

In spite of Shaq's antics, the show still went on to become a major hit. Shaunie O'Neal is the mind behind the hit series, but Evelyn Lozada is easily the most-popular woman on the show. Never being a "basketball wife," Lozada has had an affair with Kenny Anderson and was engaged to Antoine Walker. Currently, she is dating Chad Ochocinco.

With the third season just beginning, fans are hoping to see more drama. Recently, Evelyn Lozada spoke on the new season of "Basketball Wives" and she said there is much more drama ahead, as the third season progresses along.

Before "Basketball Wives," not too many people knew too much about Evelyn Lozada. Her claim to fame was the ex-fiance` of former superstar, Antoine Walker. Walker, himself, had been in the media after he blew his entire fortune on bad business deals and an excessive lifestyle. This led to Lozada leaving Walker.

Evelyn Lozada has been separated from Walker for some time and has been with several high-profile men since. Her relationship with football star, Chad Ochocinco, was documented on the last season of her show, "Basketball Wives." After getting engaged to Ochocinco, there were rumors of the couple moving to E! for a new show.

Lozada has issues with several of the cast members on the show for various reasons. While she is on good terms with Shaunie O'Neal, many of the other ladies dislike Evelyn. Because of this, she was considering not returning to do the third season of "Basketball Wives." With the second season just winding down, filming for the third season has already started.

Recently, Shaunie O'Neal posted on Twitter that she was filming the third season of "Basketball Wives" with her friends, Evelyn Lozada and Jennifer. Shaunie O'Neal and VH1 re-up for more "Basketball Wives"

VH1 has had a stranglehold on the black audience ever since the days of "Flavor of Love." Following the success of that show, the cable network has given the green light to many other black oriented shows. Other struggling cable networks have copied VH1's formula in an effort to gain ratings.

Bravo, another cable network struggling for viewership, began broadcasting "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" in 2008. While the advantage still belongs to VH1, a major dent was created with this show. As she was divorcing NBA star, Shaquille O'Neal, Shaunie O'Neal needed something of her own to live from.

She had been watching "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" and decided to create a similar show with some of her friends. VH1, ironically, was looking for a similar show to compete with Bravo's hit. Early in 2010, a match made in heaven was found when Shaunie O'Neal pitched her new project to the network and they quickly agreed to do a deal with the network.

The first season of "Basketball Wives" was more successful than "The Real Housewives of Atlanta." Through that series, VH1 was able to gain a lot of viewership from Bravo. But, "Basketball Wives" has been on hiatus since the summer. Meanwhile, "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" has returned from hiatus and is back making headlines. Realizing this, VH1 recently called for a meeting with Shaunie O'Neal and they decided to come back with more episodes of "Basketball Wives."

The new season of "Basketball Wives" will premiere on December 12 at 9:00 pm.

For the past few months, Chad Ochocinco has been dating Evelyn Lozada. She is also the star of a hit VH1 series. Ever since the beginning of this year, Lozada has starred in Shaunie O'Neal's "Basketball Wives." It appears as if she might be moving from "Basketball Wives" over to the other VH1 sports-themed series, "Football Wives."

After a few months of dating Chad Ochocinco, Evelyn Lozada has reportedly accepted an engagement ring. Not only is she rumored to be engaged to the NFL star, but she is also preparing to have his baby. This is not Ochocinco's first child, but this will be his first marriage. Shaunie O'Neal a Hit at VH1

Tuesday, June 1, 2010

Earlier this year, Shaunie O'Neal was officially divorced from Shaquille, her husband of eight years. Their marriage had been in trouble since 2007, but the move to Phoenix did the O'Neals some good. But, late last year, the same problems returned. Soon, it was revealed that Shaq had been cheating on his wife. The infedility led to Shaunie O'Neal suing for half of Shaq's estate.

For the past few months, there were rumors of Shaunie O'Neal creating her own television series. Last fall, she first introduced her new project, "Basketball Wives." Quickly, VH1 snapped up the rights to the program. Initially, some saw it as a rip-off of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta." After a full season on the air, the show has an audience of its own and some find it more entertaining.

After a great season in which the people had a chance to see the other part of the NBA, the people fell in love with "Basketball Wives." VH1 has a formula worked out. With the people tired of all of the dating shows, they have scaled back and revamped the format a bit. The first breakout hit under this new format has been "Basketball Wives." Due to the success of the program, VH1 has not wasted any time bringing the show back for another season.

Shaq wants to end "Basketball Wives"

Wednesday, April 14, 2010

The nasty divorce between Shaquille and Shaunie O'Neal has been no secret. In fact, their divorce has become the talk of the entertainment and sports community. There was a chance that his divorce proceedings could have kept him out of some games. With the basketball regular season over, Shaq did not miss any games, due to divorce.

For years, the O'Neals appeared to be the model couple in the sports world. When news broke of their divorce, it sent a shock throughout both the sports and entertainment sectors. Shaunie O'Neal later revealed that Shaq had been cheating on her during his stay in Miami. Perhaps a bit paranoid, Shaquille feels that Shaunie is plotting revenge.

Recently, her long-discussed "Basketball Wives" series finally aired and Shaq is trying to put an end to it. He feels that she is using the show to make him look bad. Ever since his college days, O'Neal has been trying to portray a role model persona. For the most part, Shaq has lived up to that, but this scandal has put a dent in his image.

Lawyers for Shaquille O'Neal have written a letter to VH1 to have them halt production on any new episodes of "Basketball Wives" that will mention his name. Shaq feels that enough damage has been done to his image without anymore input from his wife. The lawyers claim that Shaunie signed a confidentiality clause when they first wed each other. This means that anytime that Shaunie O'Neal mentions her relationship with Shaq in person, he reserves right to take her to court. Shaq is taking action after the first episode of the show aired and was centered around Shaunie's relationship with him.

Shaunie O'Neal takes aim at "The Real Housewives of Atlanta"

Sunday, April 11, 2010

Now that she is seeking to gain independence from her larger-than-life husband, Shaunie O'Neal has become a reality television star. For this new reality show, O'Neal has taken the theme of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta." Because she has lived the life as the wife of a basketball player, Shaunie has recruited many other basketball wives to uncover the real behind the scenes life.

Over the past few years, VH1 has become the top channel for black reality shows. But, in recent years, a competitor has risen in Bravo and they have taken a chunk out of VH1. The main reason that they have become a competitor to VH1 is because of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta." While the edge still remains with VH1, Bravo has taken their audience and VH1 wasted no time in dealing with Shaunie O'Neal.

Because of the theme of her program and the fact that VH1 hopped on the opportunity to broadcast it so fast, many people have called her program a rip-off of the Bravo hit. After hearing this comparison for months, Shaunie O'Neal has responded to the critics. She said that there are similarities between the two programs. However, the only difference is that on her show, the women actually get along with each other and act in a professional manner.
