The past two years have been incredible for Trey Songz as he has climbed into superstardom. Before, Trey Songz was under the shadow of Usher, Ne-Yo, Mario, Jamie Foxx, and others. But, in 2009, R&B's usual stars did not record albums. Trey Songz did and he took the game over.
Last year, Usher released his Raymond v. Raymond album, but he still remained in the shadow of Trey Songz. Ne-Yo released his long-awaited Libra Scale album, but Trey Songz remained on top still. It appears as if Trey Songz does not have an album planned for release this year.
While Trey Songz does not have an album planned, Ne-Yo and a resurgent Chris Brown do. Brown has been held down for too long and he is ready to reclaim his spot. But, Trey Songz has an advantage that none of his rivals have. Not only is he the face of R&B, he is also the face of Rocawear and he has his own reality show. This year, he plans to expand that into some acting roles.
Even if his planned acting career does not take off, Trey Songz does have some upcoming guest spots on rap albums. Lupe Fiasco is releasing his long-awaited Lasers album and he needed a big name to reintroduce himself to the game. The name Lupe called on was none other than Trey Songz. Outside of his collaborations with Lupe Fiasco, Trey Songz will also be recording with J. Cole. The Roc Nation artist is preparing his debut album for a 2011 release and he also needs a big name to help him out.
If those albums do well, Trey Songz will not even need a new album to keep himself on top this year.
