T-Pain explains ditching Auto-tune

By The Music Scoop
JR Staff Writer

In 2005, T-Pain ushered in a new era in hip hop. At the time, hip hop needed something new. Jay-Z was retired and no rapper had truly stepped up. There were several new artists, but none really stood out among the rest.

But, late in the summer of 2005, T-Pain debuted his single, "I'm Sprung." The song quickly became a hit, thanks to his use of the auto-tune. It was not long before T-Pain was using the auto-tune on his hooks with other artists.

By 2007, T-Pain had risen the ranks and was recording with R. Kelly. On their collaborations, Kelly also used the auto-tune. On the mixtape level, Lil Wayne had taken over the rap game. In 2008, he released his comeback album, Tha Carter III, which featured Wayne's first chart-topper, "Lollipop," which only used the auto-tune.

Soon, everyone from Kanye West to Young Jeezy was using auto-tune. The machine had invaded every rap song on the radio. Throughout 2008, there were rumors of Jay-Z coming out with a new album, which he would name The Blueprint 3. When the album did not come, fans assumed the album was nothing more than a rumor. However, when the album came, it was led by Jay-Z's "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-tune)" single. The song was released as T-Pain prepared to release his new album.

Out of frustration, T-Pain dissed Jay-Z, but soon apologized. With his popularity drained, T-Pain decided to take time off. T-Pain came out of his hiatus for the DJ Khaled single, "All I Do is Win." However, T-Pain did not begin his more formal comeback until he performed the hook on DJ Khaled's 2011 single, "Welcome to my Hood." Now, T-Pain is preparing to release his fourth studio album and he announced the album would not feature auto-tune.

Now a six-year veteran in the game, T-Pain wants to do something different. Him ditching the auto-tune is not out of fear of a 2008 repeat. Instead, T-Pain is hoping to prove he can sing without the help of the machine and he is trying to evolve his sound. Each day, T-Pain is in the studio trying to make this happen.

By Mr. Hollywood
JR Staff Writer

The past year and a half have been mixed for LeBron James. After winning his first MVP, in 2009, many expected him to finally capture the NBA championship. Instead, his Cavaliers lost in six games to the Orlando Magic. Among the main components in this demise was Rashard Lewis, who buried key three pointers.

Two years later, it sounds as if three pointers were not the only thing Lewis was burying to disappoint LeBron James. Recent rumors suggest the current Washington Wizards forward had sexual relations with James' girlfriend. Nette at 97.9 The Box said the encounter took place when Lewis played against Miami.

Nette said she has sources close to the situation, who called the infamous Tiger Woods story. This person has a home in Orlando, close to Rashard Lewis' home. Not only is this person a neighbor, he also clubs with Rashard Lewis. Due to Lewis' NBA status, all of the talk was LeBron James and his performance in the NBA Finals, with drinking involved, Lewis reportedly said he slept with Savannah, the girlfriend of LeBron James.

Following James' terrible performance, Stephen A. Smith said LeBron was going through trouble off the court. Similarly, during the 2010 NBA Playoffs, James had less-than-LeBron-like play and Smith said he was going through personal problems. Only then, it was revealed his teammate, Delonte West, had slept with his mother. This time, it seems as if LeBron James is struggling with the fact that Rashard Lewis helped oust him out of the 2009 playoffs and slept with his girlfriend.

By Mr. Hollywood
JR Staff Writer

Long before his days with Amber Rose and the rumors of a relationship with Kim Kardashian, Kanye West was in a committed relationship with Alexis Phifer. West gave Phifer a shout out on his debut album, The College Dropout. The two grew so close they agreed to get married.

The couple split not much after Kanye West's 2007 release, Graduation. His breakup with Alexis Phifer, paired with the death of his mother, led to Kanye West recording 808s & Heartbreak, his R&B debut album. Alexis Phifer choosing to leave Kanye had less to do with his personality than it had to do with his lifestyle.

While she does not have any hard feelings towards Kanye West, they will never be a couple again because Alexis Phifer did not like to be in the spotlight. Phifer said because Amber Rose enjoyed the spotlight, she was able to handle it better than she was able to. Alexis Phifer said she let Kanye West know she was not comfortable in the spotlight and this is why she left him.

Following the experience, Alexis Phifer said she does not see herself getting involved with another rapper in the future.
