Olivia refuses to date Rappers

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

While she has not been properly introduced to the game, Olivia is still a relatively big name. In 2001, she signed with J Records and was the first artist on the label. She was quickly pushed to the side when Alicia Keys was signed to the label. Even back then, Olivia made her mind up on certain things.

In 2004, Olivia resurfaced in several videos by G-Unit and the associates of the crew. 50 Cent soon announced Olivia was the first female artist signed to G-Unit Records. Olivia went from being signed to a strictly R&B record label to being signed to the most hardcore hip hop record label in the game.

During her time at G-Unit, Olivia was rumored to have been dating either The Game, Young Buck, and Lloyd Banks, at one time or another. DJ Whoo Kid recently revealed Young Buck and Olivia had a "thing" during their time together at G-Unit. Along with Game calling her a man, Olivia laughs at the allegations made against her by the official DJ for G-Unit.

Olivia decided to elaborate on her non-relationship with Young Buck. Overall, Olivia has nothing against her former label-mate. There is one reason why she would never date him, though. Young Buck's decision to become a rapper is why Olivia could never date him. Even 50 Cent, with all of his millions, could not be able to score with Olivia. From the start, she decided she could not and would not date rappers. Keri Hilson made a similar statement over a month ago, when she was romantically linked to a rapper.

Bill Cosby hosting Awards Ceremony for Hip Hop Moguls

Thursday, March 3, 2011

By Mr. Hollywood

Hip hop music has come under much scrutiny over the past decade and a half. Among the most vocal critics has been Bill Cosby. The former star of "The Cosby Show" has openly criticized almost every rapper in the game. At one point, Cosby even released his own hip hop album in order to right the ship.

Because of all of the fighting Bill Cosby did against hip hop, news of him hosting a ceremony celebrating hip hop moguls comes as a bit of a surprise. On March 7, 2011, The Jackie Robinson Foundation will be honoring several hip hop moguls. Among the moguls being honored are Sean "Diddy" Combs.

Bill Cosby will be hosting The Robie Awards for The Jackie Robinson Foundation. Other hip hop moguls honored during this celebration will be Russell Simmons. In 2004, Bill Cosby had nothing but negative things to say about hip hop. He went as far as to criticized black parents for allowing all of this to happen.

Cosby has been trying to prove he has no issues with hip hop for some time. He argues his hip hop album was proof of this. By hosting an awards show for the hip hop moguls, Bill Cosby feels he is officially ending all discussion about him hating hip hop and rap.

Keri Hilson discusses the Rap Game

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

Recently, Keri Hilson discussed her love for rappers and the rap game. For years, Keri Hilson worked behind the scenes as a songwriter. In late 2006, she decided she wanted to step into the spotlight and planned to release her album in 2007. For unknown reasons, her debut album was delayed.

With the help of Lil Wayne, her single "Turnin' Me On," became a major hit. The popularity of the song helped her land a secure release date for In A Perfect World... Upon its release, the album would become a major success. The album was noted for its hip hop collaborations.

Last year, Keri Hilson returned with her second album and it features the same format. Ever since her 2009 explosion, Hilson has worked with several rappers. When she was asked about her favorite collaboration, Keri Hilson said it was "Turnin' Me On" with Lil Wayne. However, her longtime dream was to record with Nas, which she did on 2008's "Hero."

Along the way, Keri Hilson has also collaborated with T.I., Fabolous, Kanye West, and Rick Ross. Hilson said she loves rap just as much as she loves R&B. While Keri Hilson has love for rappers, she does not see herself dating a rapper anytime soon. The lifestyle most rappers lead is too much for a girl like her. Because of this, she stays away from relationships, outside of the friend zone, with rappers. She has seen how many other R&B ladies, outside of Beyonce have been treated by rappers and made a safe decision.

Oprah Winfrey finally embraces Hip Hop

Monday, May 10, 2010

Over the years, Oprah Winfrey has not had many positive things to say about the hip hop community. Long before the hip hop backlash of 2007, Winfrey was among the biggest critics. For the longest time, she made it seem as if rappers were unwelcome on her show. In 2004, Ludacris appeared on the program for his role in a film and she grilled him about his lyrics.

Because of the way that she treated Ludacris, many rappers began dissing Oprah. While Oprah claims to be "black and proud," she never hesitates to shun the black community. Despite being a black television personality, her audience consists of middle aged white women. Even with the rapidly-changing demographics, middle aged white women do not care for hip hop.

Last fall, Oprah Winfrey landed an interview with Jay-Z and he changed her life. Jay-Z invited Oprah to where he grew up and introduced her to the only life he knew for a long time. Oprah gained a bit of understanding of why rappers say the things that they say and she toned down her criticisms of rap music. Recently, Oprah attended a function that included Memphis Bleek, Pharrell, and many other rappers and hip hop artists.

On her show, Oprah Winfrey no longer speaks out about rappers and their music. Aisde from Gayle King, she identifies Jay-Z as her best friend. Not even a week ago, Jay-Z introduced Oprah to a few of his closest friends and she fit right in. There are a lot of people who criticize Oprah for the things that she says and does, but she has proven that she can work and play. The pictures have flooded the internet of Oprah dancing with rappers, so there should be no need for members of the hip hop community to refer to her as uppity.
